My son has attended Idlewoods self-contained Special Education program for four years now (since turning 3). They may not have the resources of the private schools, but they truly care about my son and his progress! He has flourished as a result of their investment! Parent/teacher communucation has been great, & they encourage me to drop by to look in on them! I can't speak to the teaching ability of the rest of the staff, but I can say that they've always been welcoming--& I've never seen anything but positive interactions b/w them & students. As for parent involvement, the fact that a majority of the students seem to be immigrants is probably the issue. But they are a greatly diverse group of kids, representing countless ethnicities & cultural backgrounds, & that can also be a good thing!
I have lived in the Idlewood school district for 7 years now and have seen a great improvement in the school. My daughter is now a 1st grader at Idlewood and we could not be happier with the teacher, the principal, and the school. The staff is dedicated and driven, and they express a high level of interest in seeing my daughter succeed. Parent involvement in the school could be better. What makes a huge difference in a child's educational success is how much time and direction they are offered at home in regards to studying spelling words, problem solving, and completing long-term projects. Believe me, the teachers and staff are doing their jobs!
This is a Title 1 Distinguished school of ten yrs and met AYP for 8 in a row...we have a new principal that is amazing and we have the best teachers with high level training and education. We are a transient school for new citizens and visiting immigrants so we cater to all. With the 87% transient population in & out we still test well and are equal to the nation's levels.
This is my second year teaching at Idlewood and I feel very honored to work at such a wonderful school!
