My four year old has entered the PreK program this year. We are having a little difficulty with behavior. We have had one meeting with several staff members. Not one had a single suggestion on how to handle this situation. They provide inappropriate forms for us to fill out. The hand out pamphlets that are inappropriate. Their answere is they know the forms need some work. These are supposed to be TRAINED professionals. Can't say I agree.
Forest Hills, while a great high school experience, lacks the courses, guidance, and other criteria that I need as a student. If you have ambitions at this school, it means nothing unless, unfortunately, they revolve around football. As an honors student, and founder of several successful organizations and clubs, I was excited to speak to my guidance counselor at the high school, but was unsatisfied when i found out that FH doesn't offer any AP classes until 11th grade, whereas other schools offer them as early as 9th grade. If you aspire to receive the top-tier education at the collegiate level, as I do, the guidance counselors, basically, laugh in four faces and hand you an application for UPJ. Teacher quality is poor, half of them are jerks and the other half are to busy scheduling football strategies to teach a class. All in all FH has terrible academics. Period.
This school is focoused far to much on sports and far to less on schooling. The education given to the students is less teaching and more just reading to them of a slide show. You'r child would be better off reading from his/her own textbook.
I graduated from this school in 1995 and feel that the lack of cultural diversity is not preparing the students for life beyond Sidman, PA. I think it's a shame that the students are required to attend school on Martin Luther King day, but have off for the first day of hunting season. Just because there are not African Americans that attend the school, that doesn't mean that the students shouldn't be taught respect. If there is a choice between sending my child to this school or home schooling my child, he will be taught at home.
