Desperately seeking alternatives to the public elementary school system for my gifted son who is plagued by the social/emotional challenges of Aspergers. Anyone have a private school recommendation in the metro Richmond (or surrounding areas)? He is okay in a group setting. We don't need 1:1 and prefer he not be mixed with children with more severe autism. Thank you!
Have you found anything for him? My son is in public kindergarten in Henrico Co. and I think we may be facing the same issue. He has Asperger's characteristics but hasn't been officially diagnosed. He can function independently in the class room but it doesn't seem to be meeting his needs. We figure we will give it a few more years but would love to know of good alternatives. I've thought about Sabot at Stony Point but the drive would be difficult for us.78774
Ladies - looks like no replies yet to this post. Have you run across any suggestions for gifted aspies here in Richmond? We are considering doing another educational assessment now that he is half way thru elem school in hopes of getting some new idea as to what to do next. I have friends with HFA kids at Steward (which was too structured for our son and not academically challenging enough), Richmond Montessori, Collegiate and even someone newly diagnosed that is currently enrolled at St Chris. Each child is so different though it's hard for me to say if my son would fit in to one of these schools. Any luck with your search?82406
