As a teacher I can tell you boundaries are important. I teach at a popular but very crowded school. There isn't room for extras when people moved to the area to attend our school. We allow open enrollment, but there's a wait list and few openings.
I think there should most definitely be a choice. A lottery takes care of the who gets in process without discrimination. Every child should get the chance to go to a good school. Bad behavior has consequences. If they don't follow them they are out.
Although it might seem unfair, your child must attend a school in the assigned zone. Otherwise, you would have parents moving their kid around each year to chase the test results/Great Schools rating. There should be a few options if possible.
should be allowed to attend any school, i wish I could take my tax dollars with me to private school...maybe if the schools had to compete for your dollars may be they would do a better job...including getting rid of the bad kids....
Families should attend any school they wish,its their life.They want their kids to actually be happy at school.Some kids are not with the school their going to now because the school has boundaries.Kids and families should choose for themselves.
I believe that parents should have the open enrollment options. If there is a spot it should be a first come first serve basis unless there is a medical reason a child needs to be somewhere specific. I am doing open enrollment for all of my kids.
