I am currently a sophmore at JCHS. It's crowded, but other than that, it's completely fine. Previous posts are overreacting in terms of accurately portraying the overcrowding at JCHS. It isn't that bad. Plus, the teachers (Honors teachers, at least) are great. Go Patriots!
My previous post must have been erased, but I was very serious when I posted the following: The graduating seniors at JCHS deserve better than to have to walk across dirt floors at the WS Expo Center during graduation. This is where the horse shows and bull riding events take place. Who wants to wear their dressy clothes only to find themelves stepping in a pile of dung? These kids work hard for 12 years and deserve better than that. Even the schools football field would be a better place for graduation.
If your idea of a great school for your child is very over crowed this is it. Your child eating lunch while sitting on the floor better yet. This should get your attention mobile home class rooms a brisk walk from the main school. It don't get any better then this !
I have a child that just graduated from JCHS and I have a upcoming Sophmore. The school is simply too over crowded. Not enough emphasis is placed on learning. Students leave school without the needed skills to manage life in the real world. If someone were to ask me if I would recommend JCHS for their child,I would urge them to find another school even if they had to go the private school route.
I love our school! Our students are wonderful. Of course there are a few boogers, but that's life. Overall, this is the best place to be.
I go to JCHS. I am a sophmore. I think that there is too many people that go to Jefferson County High at one time. The teachers are great, but sometimes, I believe that there is not enough teacher involvement in the lives of their students. If one wants to teach a student, one must know the student.
2,300+ students housed in a building that was designed for half that number or less. That makes for cramped and uncomfortable quarters in which students sit for roughly 7 hours per day. That is not a learning environment. Watch students try to get to the cafeteria in one of the four lunch groups in time to get through the lines, pay for their meal and eat it, before time to rush back to their classrooms.
JCHS is the worste school in the world. I'm currently a junior there and it is terrible. Very few teachers care about their students. Some are there just to get money. All of the teachers that I have had up to this point, 90% of them were mean, unfair, and spiteful. The work is too hard and they put people in college-prep classes when they're not smart enough, or vice versa. As for me, i have 3/4 CP classes, and I shouldn't be. I have intermediate english, which isn't right. The lunch is ok, but damn the crowding is sooooo bad! When I get my lunch they already dismiss us, then I'm late for class and I get in trouble, plus th eteacher yells at me for 30 mins after that! The portables aren't necassary. We spend more flippin' money on stupid sports than we do education. I will check back.
I moved from Texas to this school my sophomore year and was very disappointed in the school system. The high school was very overcrowded and there wasnt enough encouragement from teachers and faculty to be prepared for college. I did not feel prepared to enter college when I graduated. The school nutrition was not good, most kids got junky snack foods from the school store for lunch because the cafeteria lines were so long. The school lacked an adequate media center, as only two or three out of date computers were available to students to use for homework/research. The computer labs in the school could only be used if a teacher reserved them for his/her class use. However, they are working to improve education in the county with a new initiative called Jefferson County: Building a Better Future.
As a parent, the education is decent, but more focus on the arts is need and less on the sports. My biggest problem is the portable buildings. As much taxes as we pay here in the name of the school, why are they buying trailers? Then there is lunch, my kids say the lines are so long they don't get to eat, and if they bring luch there is nowhere to set.
