Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I am a parent and my son went to this school. He said some of the teachers don't have control of the classes. Some of the students are disruptive and try to sell illegal substances every day. I really wish there was a Cooperstown high school.

The school, education wise, is outstanding. Lots of clubs, activities, and well behaved students. The problem I have is Dr. Grimes, the current principal. He shows favoritism towards certain groups of students and allows them to fly under the radar, and judges students based on appearances. He is also disrespectful to students AND parents. I don't recommend putting your child here until he is gone. There are also teachers who play favoritism toward the more "preppy" students and the white male athletes (Dr. Grimes included). The sports department gets everything for free while the art and music departments have to raise their own money for anything.

I graduated in 2008, and I loved the education that I received from this school. I was completely prepared for college because I got out of my education what I put into it. I will say I was fortunate enough to get teachers that were highly motivated to do their jobs, and I have heard of several teachers who simply operated to make his/her students meet the minimum standards in order to pass. However, my teachers were not this low of caliber.

The opportunities that SHS provides to the kids is amazing. AND the number of scholarships given last year to students was over $4million. The facilities have been updated and are nicer than they used to be.

This is the worst school system I have ever seen. Forget an education the teachers can't control the classrooms. Yelling and cussing are a daily occurance. A certain group of students wear pants 2 the knees, which is "NOT ALLOWED" but that is all 95% of them wear they are not sent home. Let another type disobey the dress code and you are out. The good ol' boy system applies and includes the Board of Education. Your last name determines your punishment. If you speak up about a teacher, look out because you are then a target. They do not have equal punishment by any means as it relates to any so called "rules". They make them up as they see fit. I would have NEVER moved here from St. Louis had I know that this was how a small town school operates. It is reprehensible that this is allowed.

Springfield High School is a top notch school in all uses of the word. If you as a student are truly interested in excelling in the future, SHS is where you should be. It's un-deserved reputation and bad press are horrible spins on what Springfield High truly is, the best school in Robertson county. So many parents complain about their children not succeeding at SHS. With a top notch staff, amazing class opportunities, and Leslie Diehm and Judy Stanly in the mix, I can only assume that your child has not been taken into account. The urban influence upon SHS is minimal. Children who do not wish to gain an education definitely are there, however it is up to those who truly wish to succeed to rise above them. Complain all you like about the workings of my school, but it all boils down to your kids in the end.

I attended SHS and graduated in 2003. I doubt the school has improved much due to the 'good ol' boy' network that infests the Robertson County system. I was completely unprepared for college and was only able to succeed through large amounts of catching up on what I should have learned in high school (I took every advanced class that SHS offered and graduated with a 3.99 GPA). Unless you really don't try at all it is nearly impossible to walk out of SHS with anything less than As and Bs. This is great on a college application but does not help at all once you get there. If I were a Robertson County parent I would gladly commute to Nashville for a better school if your child has any post-secondary school aspirations.

As the year goes on it seems like the school just continues to get worse. My daughter has come home to me many times to let me know that she has gotton a tardy again for class, due to she used the restroom on the way to class. She said that her teachers will not allow her to use them during class so she tries to go between, then she gets in trouble there. If the principle finds you in the hall he screams at you and does not try to speak to you as a human being. My child gets straight A's and it seems that there are a few teachers there that do not appreciate this, they are on these students and treat them unfair due to they are ahead of the rest of the class and they ask too many questions. The school needs a new principal.

My son is a freshman at SHS and he says that he doesn't feel like he is learning anything new. He says they just keep reviewing everything he has already learned with the exception of his world history class which he really enjoys because it is all new material. He has always enjoyed school and loves to learn new things. I'm afraid that he is going to lose interest in school if the curriculum doesn't change where they are teaching new things.

SHS is a great school that has great teachers who put in many hours above what they are required so that students have that extra chance to excel. No school is perfect, they all can in improve in some areas. The same thing goes for SHS. One of our areas as addressed by others below is overcrowding. We are currently addressing this by a 19 million dollar renovation. SHS is a great place to learn.

SHS offers many advanced courses. My daughter was encouraged by her teachers and guidance counselor to take advantage of the dual classes offered and be prepared for college. The girls athletic program is lacking. My son will start there soon and is very excited about the classes he has chosen and the variety available. As with any High School, kids will be influenced by their peers. As a parent, I have no safety fears for the kids at school as long as Rick Highsmith is there as principal.

I'm a graduate of Springfield High School and I could not have asked for a better school. The teachers are awesome and really want you to learn.I'm in college now and the stuff I learned there has definately helped me without a doubt. Don't believe everything you hear about SHS. It truly is a great school. There have never been a shooting. There have never been stabbings. Nothing has happened there the whole four years I was there. I always felt safe. Give it a chance, you'll love it!

I recently moved here from Toledo Oh and I find the schools behind and lacking in disclipne. My sons are heads above the other students when it comes to the academics and just about the same in the coaching they recieved here.

My personal opinion about SHS is that it's a horrible school when it comes to cliques and safety. Some teachers don't do their job. The 'authority' figures take too much advantage of their position at times it seems. This school needs a lot of work with the inside and outside of the building. It is a run-down school but I have had fun in it. I have a lot of negative things to say about this school and some positive things.. You make the choice. Visit or go to this school and you can have your own opinion.

Springfield High School is an absolute horror. I went nowhere but downhill when I entered into SHS. There was no discipline, and most of my teachers didn't even teach. They would allow me and my friends to roam the halls and hang out in the gym during class time. I had to 'escape' and decided to go into homeschool. I graduated a year ahead of my class and am now a pre-med student at Vanderbilt University. This is in no way credited to SHS. Let me make that clear! Once I was away from the bad influences of SHS, I prospered. Seriously, do not put your child through this terrible school. It praises 'cliques' and is very slack with the curriculum.

SHS is an amazing highschool, but there are some things that are keeping our students from succeeding to their highest potential. when it comes to sports, the coaches are not taking it as seriously as they should. My child is attending to SHS and sports and the drumline mean everything to her.

If Springfield High School was anything less of a quality school, it would not annually send so many students to top-notch colleges. An education at Springfield High School continues to result with students attending the most competitive universities. It has such the most enriched curriculum of any high school in Robertson County.

As a parent haveing all four of my children go there, I have came to realize one thing... They need to get Mr. Highsmith out of this school, and get Mr. Stewart back. Stewart could relate to this kids, but Highsmith , is there to do a job and get that job done, so he doesn't enjoy it and niether does the students!

I would like to start by saying that shs is one of the best schools a teen could possibly attend. The tachers, students, and administration are great. Though there are bad reviews about shs, therwill always be a negative side to every story. My child havettended shs for three years now and she's doing great. She's had a few bumps and bruises along the way, but they really helped. The administration is sometimes harder on some students than others to give them that extra boost they need to succeed. I find this normal though parents may take it personal because the attention is directed towards their child. All and all. Shs gives young adults a real life learning experience while offering great extra curriculum programs such as music, sports, drama, newspaper, t.V. News, academic groups, and many community service groups. Allow your child too attend shs, you won't regret it!

I would give nothing for my impeccable experiences at Springfield High School. Thanks to Leslie Diehm, Frankye Jean Houseworth Holmes, Judy Stanley, Lynne Colvin, and Lonnie Whitlow, I learned more about myself and educational topics than I would have thought possible. There was always a shoulder to cry on or a teacher who understood & was prepared to back me up. Springfield High will always be in my heart. . . but I will agree that administration needs to wise up and give their best staff the most support they can acquire.

As a parent, I know that the school is not run as efficiently as it should. The majority of the teachers don't know how to relate to the minority students, especially the black males. Upon talking with the administration, I find it with little respect from the students, and some teachers. It is based upon the good old boy system, where it is not what you know but who you know. If a student has a problem with one of the teachers, then they make it hard for him in other classes. The football coaching staff knows nothing about coaching the sport. There have been too many black players who were removed, and he destroys their enthusiasm.

SHS is an amazing school. The teachers here truly prepare students for college and beyond. The choral programs under the direction [of] Lisa Jernigan are of the highest quality. Leslie Diehm is an outstanding economics and government teacher. Frankye Holmes uses the socratic method to induce thought into students of her advanced english classes. Anne Finley is an amazing teacher of several science courses. Multitude of extracurricular activities are available for all types of students. I would not hesitate to send my child to Springfield High School. I don't know what 'bad reputation' a previous reviewer is referring to, but that reputation is obviously unwarranted.

Springfield High is, overall, a good school. The English, History, and Science departments are outstanding. Most teachers are very friendly, knowledgable, and helpful, with a few exceptions. The principal is strict but fair, but has little respect from the students.

The principal is great! The building could use some work inside and out. 2-3 teachers there might need to retire soon, but the majority of them are easy to talk to and fun teachers.

I am a parent of a freshman at SHS. My child thought it would be scary going into high school especially going to a school with such a bad reputation. As a matter of fact, I was a little worried myself. After the first few days she was liking it and even though its only 3 weeks into school I can already tell that this is a wonderful school and everyone there is nice and very friendly. I could not ask for a better educational atmosphere for my child.
