Very good school, I've had 2 children go through here and all the teachers were excellent, and the rest of the staff as well. Always very caring, and go out of their way to help the children with any special concerns. In a small town you worry about the quality of the curriculum, but it was also outstanding.
Great teachers, principal, vice-principal, office personnel as well as an awesome librarian, cafeteria and maintenance staff. When you enter the doors you can sense the greatness and excellence that is in the air. The teachers are just awesome, wonderful and talented and have great dedication in making sure that the students are successful in everything they do. The school has a positive attitude in the air and in every classroom you can smell success in learning and in life.
From an academic perspective, I think Walnut Creek is great. This is our first year at Walnut Creek and I've been very impressed with the teachers, administration, and staff. My child also really enjoys going to school at Walnut Creek. What I've been unimpressed with so far has been the PTO. It seems very exclusionary and uninviting. Some parents (even PTO board members) dress disrespectfully, as though they are going to a bar, not a school. Parents are examples and should be required to follow the same dress code as students (e.g., no spaghetti strap shirts, no low cut tops, no tube tops, shorts of reasonable length). Other than that, the school is great and I wouldn't want my kiddo any other place!
Walnut Creek is a great school, however, like most Texas schools, they only focus on the TAKS test, which people need to remember is only a basic knowledge test for the grade. I think our kids deserve better than a basic education and Exemplary is not the most important thing if they are only learning basic skills so the school can continue to be the 'best' and receive more state funds. I have found the teachers to be dedicated and committed to the children and their jobs. Most of the staff is nice and helpful.
Walnut Creek is an excellent elementary level school. It has been rated 'Exemplary' by the State's testing standards. Teachers are friendly and many offer extra-curricular activities outside of the expected guidelines. Parent involvement is good and exceeds that of the schools in the district.
The quality of academic programs has improved over the years and has led the school to an exemplary status. Though the school offers a music and PE class, it is not funded for an art class. The computer lab is small and accommodates one class at a time which is limiting to the students. The overall computer technology of this school and the district needs to be updated. There is a good deal of parent involvement but through personal experience, I have learned that the PTO participants have lost what the true meaning of their organization means. Many of them seem to be there to add another notch to their social ladder while the few who truly want to make a difference, are met with obstacles of the pettiness among the majority of the group. That aside, Walnut Creek is a wonderful school and I highly recommend it!
Both of my children have gone to Walnut Creek. I have found it to be parent friendly by all staff. The main focus is academics.
Great School and great teachers who really care.
