November 18, 2008 My daughter has attended Vela Middle School for two years and it is my opinion, as a parent, that this school has encouraged her to exhibit great enthusiam, ambition and motiviation. Academically, my daughter has excelled. Sport activities have provided her with great self-esteem and self-discipline. The teachers and coaches inspire their students tremendously. I, personally, rate Vela Middle School as 'excellent'.

The new principal has brought a positive environment to the school. The school has been a TEA Recognized school 5 years in a row. It has also been honored as a Texas Business and Education Coalition Honor Roll school two years in a row. Vela has won the UIL Academic championship 13 years in a row in their district. Their chess team have been state champions on more than one occassion.

Dress codes not enforced. School seems to lack discipline. Poor dissemination of information regarding policies and events. Overall seems to be mismanaged.
