One of my children had gone to 4 different elementary schools, because of moving and choosing to do one year private school. Sam Houston has been by far the best school she ever attended. The teachers are all extraordinary, the principal and staff are friendly. Everyone has the best interest in your child. I have personally met one on one with the principal, vice principal, and teachers and all my meeting have been great. I have mentioned more than once to other parents that this school has a great "private school" feel to it. This school also has one of the biggest parent involvement of elementary schools in Bryan.

I had a child at Sam Houston Elementary for four years, through the leadership change in 2008. Our experience was consistently very positive. The teaching in the classrooms was excellent. The principal is very concerned about the children, involved in school activities, and very approachable. All of the administrative staff were quite supportive and helpful. My child was on a 504 and her special needs were met beautifully. She made excellent progress while there. We had homeschooled for years, so my standards were/are very high, but we were very pleased with this school!

The councilor ms lindeman is awesome, so is ms morton and geradono (sp). Now the principle: she is uninterested in providing help/input/sources, etc to parents that are not of the uppercrust variety. Other than that, its a good school. But once you get into middle and high school in the bryan district...Unless your kid is gifted or very disadvantaged, they will be set to the way side. And that advice comes from parents of college ages kids who had to go thru bisd.

I have been very pleased with my daughter's experience at Sam Houston. I could not ask for more from a public school. We will be moving soon and she is very sad to have to leave her school, and I must agree that the teachers and staff have been very involved in getting to know the kids personally. For me it is just the right amount of focus on academics-- highly valued, but relationships and fun experiences are also planned for. When making a choice on schools in Bryan/College Station area, this school should be at the top of the list!

I had heard wonderful things about Sam Houston Elem. but now that my child is attending, I have not been impressed. It is not a parent-friendly atmosphere. I am seriously considering taking my child out and going to a private school. The quality of academic programs is good but does not cater to children outside the median; that is, very bright or special needs children.
