Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

This is one of the worst schools in this area. Teachers are mean to kids. I kind of agree with the robot review as I have observed the same thing too. The supplies that you buy for your kid won't be used for your kid because they will never know whose supply is whose.. Their organization skills are the worst.. I withdrew my son after a week from this school because he got selected elsewhere. When I went there to get back the supplies that I provided i got only half of what I gave them and that too all the brands and sizes were different. That's how I realized that the supplies I buy for my son wont be used anyways on him. I feel very bad about it. The evening pick up is a horror story. There is absolutely no security. Anybody can scoop into the cafeteria during the evening pick up. The principal although a very good person lacks capabilities to control his staff. One day I observed that parents waited for 45 minutes without a single kid being released So parents if you want to experience all this first hand please go ahead and your child in this school.. If you have options then please don't put your kid in this school. I feel for parents who don't have a choice.

My grandson goes to this school, and he is an A/B student. I believe the teachers are very caring and professional, as is the rest of the school staff. This is his third year at this school, and he has really flourished!

This school is looks like the kids are robot's, all the children dress a like, walk a certain way, and follow robot motions that the teachers instill. Then can't talk at all while then are walking, they can't talk in the cafeteria even when they are through eating lunch and have to put there heads on the nasty/dirty tables when they are done until they get released. If they forget and accidently talk the whole class looses recess. You can hear teachers yelling from down the hall at the kids. The tests scores are awful and the kids walk around like zombie's. The only positive thing I can say about this pathetic school is they have a great after school play program to those kids fortunate enough to go to the after school program. This program is only offered through the after school program. This is the ONLY thing that is school has to offer. Other than that plan on your kids coming home sick all the time and Not learning anything but dirty words and how to put their head on the lunch room tables when they are done eating. This school should be shut down! I am ashamed a school in Texas is run like this. Parents be warned.

My child has been enrolled at Jerry Junkins since kinder w/ mrs. Tilley. Went on to 1st w/ Mrs Brumbelow and 2nd grade w/ Mrs Decker. 2nd grade was a challenge due to teacher on maternity leave. We were upset at the lack of communication the sub provided to us as a parent. The dual language program in my opinion needs work. The concept is great but the follow thru needs MAJOR help! We love Junkins but communication is key. We are parents that want to know what our child is struggling with so we can provide one on one help at home. Waiting until report cards are sent is not helping anyone, especially a child. Aside from that Junkins is a good school!

We recently moved to this area from another state and I was so pleased by the school and its staff. They welcomed my daughter mid school year and helped her catch up to her fellow students. When we arrived she was one of a few Kinder kids not reading, I am so excited that as the school year comes to and end she is reading well beyond a 1st grade level and is loving it. This school is great!!!!

We moved to DISD from CFBISD with overwhelming challenges, having lost my job, I was forced to move and did not want to change schools. Now, the kids grades and behavior have improved and things are still improving daily. It makes me happy to hear about good days at school when the kids get home. The teachers act proud of their school and students. They are serious, competitive, and respectful. School has never been better for my kids. Every time that I enter that school, the principal and office staff are actively involved. I see them greeting the students, motivating them, they walk and talk to everybody they can actually doing above and beyond on everything. At the end of the day, they are still smiling even with tired eyes.

I am extremely pleased with this school... it's teachers & principal. We were planning to attend private school, and I was very worried when I realized we would be in a DISD public school. I have been so pleasantly surprised! My son is enrolled in the dual language program, and we couldn't be happier with the level of learning he is receiving... both academically & socially.

The teachers are awesome. They went to bat for my daughter who was one of the straight A students that the principal was going to have to take out of school. Because of her teachers my kids get to stay. I thank them very much for this.

We knew Walker would'nt be around long and she will be missed. She created a strong learning foundation for our children, one that will continue at Bryan Adams. Goooo Bryan Adams and Ms. Walker! We are glad Calhoun is staying on and we will support her and the teachers. The new PTA president was very impressive and friendly. The opening was very smooth and the new musical is already on its way. We love JJ and good luck Walker!

It is obvious that the instruction our children received at Junkins carried on to the middle and high school. True Ms. Walker is very pretty, but she is also down to earth, humble and knows her business. I have never met a principal with more enthusiasm about instruction and all of our kids love her and the teachers. Her teachers share her energy. What a talented group of people. This is the most fun warm and loving school and we will be sad when our last has to leave. We were going to take our kids out of DISD when they got to Walker but decided to stay because we thought they had a strong foundation at Junkins. They are doing well there and we have great faith in DISD thanks to Junkins. We do think DISD could do a better job cutting lawns at both schools. Go recognized Junkins!

As a British national I am new to the American education system. My daughter just joined kindergarten this year and the support I receive from her teacher Mrs. Tilley is outstanding. I am very impressed with the whole structure and staff at Jerry Junkins. I would highly recommend this school.

In the two years at Junkins and children at Marsh and White when she was there, I have never heard Ms. Walker raise her voice. She has great respect for our chilldren. No respect for education? Ha! Have you seen the school's scores or ever visited a classsroom? Doubtful. Our school is great!

My son went to this school and this was the worse school. The teachers and the principals yell at kids, their mean, they try to make the kids feels as if they are not worthy of a good education, and they tolarate bullies. The previous comments has to be from a different school.

What the principle looks like doesnt have anything to do with the education our children get (although my brother agrees with you :). Once you talk to her though you know how smart and focused she is on this school and the students and staff. Let's talk about what a great year my kids are having! There are less students this year and we moved back because they begged to go to Junkins. One of our children is in the 4th grde science class after school and can't quit talking about it! We love Ms. Walker (yes I know) and Ms. Sandford. The website is very informtional. The dirt lot across the street is awful though and some of the crazy things parents do in their cars, beware! this school shows up any Carrollton school. I hope our teachers get to stay.

my child was in second grade last year. We were a bit nervous as the teacher was very strict. We also had issues when they put 30+students in her class, but we had no need to worry. My child learned so much and we came to appreciate her style of teaching. My daughter keeps begging to go back to her class this year. I do hope that the school will be less crowded. The office was always helpfull. I never had any problems with the principal either!

My principal sure never looked liked this one when I was in school! I might have acted better if she did! She is running a great program and the teachers are effecient. They were overcrowded and seemed to keep everything under control. We heard there is a new musical next year which my son lived for. The parking is a nightmare at events, but we are thrilled that this school is in our neighborhood. Keep up the good work principal and staff.

We cannot wait for the school year to start. We are excited about the new PTA and hope the new president is more professional becasue we would like to be more active, but the last one was uninviting and rude. The yard needs to be trimmed more, but the calsses are good and our kids love the principal and their teachers.

We are very happy with the kind of attention and love that our child's teacher provides him. This school ensures enough variety in the curriculum and our child is always looking forward to activities at school. The dedication of the staff and principal is exemplary. In all, a great school.

As the saying goes.. you cannot please everybody. The principal is so visible in school, she is always there. But I have this impression of her that she is unapproachable, a she is always in a hurry. To summarize, I like the school and with the big number of student they have, they still maintain to discipline the kids.

It sounds like personal concerns that you are unjustly forwarding on public blog. I seriously doubt the principal does not return calls as I have worked at the school and know for a fact that she has a policy to return all calls the same day. She has also made her e-mail public! It is posted right on the site. She is also at every meeting and stays behind to chat. I also have a child in the fourth grade and only know of one teacher that has little experience. In fact at first we were concerned the classes were to hard. She is doing well and I believe she will be prepared. I have never heard anyone yell in the halls and I am there almost everyday because I vol in the kinder classes. There are to many children here, but I am very proud that my children attend here.

This is the second year my child has attended this school. I am happy about the extra curriculum like music, theater arts, art etc. my child always loves going to 'specials'! However after attending a couple of school functions I have been disappointed in the way the office staff and principal handle parents and children. I think they can be more open, pleasant and professional. Also since my last posting I have witnessed teachers yelling and disciplining children in the hallway. It made me grimace. This being the third school my child has been in, this is the first time I've witnessed this. I might have to take back my words from a previous posting. But hopefully by the end of this year something will improve. If not we might look into a school else where.

After reading the reviews of others opinion, I was suprised but realize some of us have higher standards of what schools should be. I cant speak for all the grades but I will express my opinion on the 4th grade classes. [My child's] teachers are terrible, they yell, and are very mean to the children. They have very minium teaching experience. There commincation skills with parents is sad, they should really pick a different profession. As far as the principal I have left over 7 messages for her about concerns I had that the teachers were not educated enough to handle, unfortunately I have not rec'd one phone call back from her yet. My sugestion of the school is to stay as far away from this school as possible.

Crowded, but great. We are amazed at the job this faculty does. You would not know they are overcrowed except places like in the morning or the cafeteria. All offices have students in trouble. We would expect that with this many kids. The instruction is top notch here. Our students will be ready for middle school. We really like the gradebook and science in the classes. Principal has returned everyone of my calls. We like the new AP also.

I agree. I would hardly call this school disorganized. The children are quiet in the hallways, walking in lines, have on uniforms, and there is a system for everything. I feel very safe leaving my child there. We really like the atmosphere here. It may be crowded, but we appreciate the hard work this faculty puts in. Their dedication is very evident. The principal is very open and friendly and I am sure if you are having a problem with a class she would help. My son cant wait for the 30th! Great school, but we hope the boundaries are redrawn soon.

This is a very disorganized school. The office is crowded in the mornings with parents and students in trouble from the busses. Too many children, not enough space, Principal will not return phone calls to address complaints, disciplinary action from Asst. Principal is inconsistent from incident to identical incident. Security is bad. Anyone can walk in this school from the front door and get in. My child is dyslexic and the dyslexia program has not started with no indication of when it will begin.

We think Ms. Walker and her staff do a great job and have recommended this school to our friends. We finally have a neighborhood school. The reading night and technology night are the best. All the teachers dress up for our children now that's dedication. We love Annie this year and Mr. Jones.

I also have to disagree with these negative comments. These teachers and staff go to work every day with the purpose of educating and protecting our children. They come to work every day and interact with children that have parents that are uninvolved or invisible and expect the school to raise their child. They are really called to be there.

I am a grandmother and I work lunches at the school and I help in my grandchild's classroom a few hours a week. i am all over the building and I have never heard a teacher yell at a child. Mrs. Walker would not allow this anyway. I also hear her and the assistant principle deal with discipline. They are kind fair and follow the rules. I think there are over 850 students at Junkins. I think the administration does a great job with this many students, parents, teachers, and other workers in a small space. Our last school was around for over 30 years and was not as organized as Junkins. If you are looking for a samll school this is not it. The play areas are small and we heard the new TAG teacher might not have her own classroom because all the rooms are full. Terrific school though!

If you want to talk to Mrs. Walker all you have to do is schedule an appointment. I had a concern about parents dropping their children on Marsh and Running Duke. I made an appointment with Ms. Lopez and Ms. Walker saw me first thing the next morning. Just schedule an appointment. Last year she did not have an assistant principal and we are glad they let her hire one this year. We think the problem at this school is the parents. Traffic is bad because parents do not follow the rules. If you do not like the traffic then let your child ride the bus. We have not gone through the traffic in two weeks we just pick her up at the stop. Our child's teacher is demanding, but we like this. We want our children to be challenged. We also like the technology used in the class.

Our wonderful school is getting knocked because it is decorate nice?? This is crazy. Do you want your child to go to a dump everyday/ We live in the neighborhood and know for a fact the long hours and summer hours this staff puts in. They spend their personal time making our school look good. The instruction is some of the most challenging we have seen and for a one year old school they are doing amazing things. When we go to meetings and events we cannot believe the amount of staff participation. At our last school we never even saw a teacher after school. Check out the new gradebook. There are a ton of ways to communicate with this school. If you are not happy with the teacher just talk to them. That is what adults do.

I don't have a problem with this school. The teachers are dedicated and work long hours. The students are rough, with the majority being Hispanic and black, White is definitely the minority so if that bugs you, steer clear. Otherwise, it's a fairly good school for a public education. The principle is hard to get in touch with however, and phone calls are hardly ever returned. Office staff seems a liitle uncaring at times and clueless as to professionalism.

I agree this school is one of the worst in Carrollton. We withdrew our children from this school and moved out of the DISD. Principal and Assistant Principal do not return phone calls if you have a complaint, but they'll kiss your rear as long as you agree with them. I wouldn't even give this school a 1 star rating, but it won't let me do 1/2 stars. There is maybe 1 or 2 people in that school that seem to care about parents and kids, but of course they aren't in charge so nothing changes. Traffic is terrible, classes are way too crowded and there's too much time being spent on how things look than how to educate yur children. They need to spend more time on educating and less time on decorating.

I have to disagree with most of the comments posted here. Last year was this school's first year open. I think they did great considering they were almost recognized. According to TEA they missed recognized by ONE POINT. Only a small group of schools were recgnized in the WHOLE DISD. It is a diverse group of students; welcome to public school. You all should be proud your children will be open minded! I had questions about instruction because we transferred our child from private school. I called the principal's secretary who set me an appointment with the principal the very next morning. She was warm and kind and gave me a tour of the school. I even observed the classes. The building is well kept and creatively decorated. It IS overcrowed. The PTA president is also very nice and helpful. Parents are involved here! Love everything about this school!

Junkins has some of the best scores around; including Carrollton! This is great for a new school. Maybe the people posting comments are not literate enough to read good scores. Not only is it decorated nice in a child centered way, the instruction is excellent. Parents and students alike love the train mascot. The 4th and 5th grade teachers are some of the best our daughters have had! The after school activities are awesome and the leadership is some of the friendliest and inviting I have encountered. I personally have witnessed the verbal abuse these teachers take from parents in the back parking lot and I feel sorry for them and embarrased by the parents who use foul language, make u-turns, and speed. I was out of this lot on Friday at 3:04. I appreciate the hard work and dedication I see from the teachers and administration. Go Junkins!

I disagee with all the negative comments. Public Education can be a challenge for everyone involved (i.e. administrative staff, teachers). Parents that sit around an complain about Junkins Elementary are probably the ones that never visit the classrooms. Yes, the school is nicely decorated. And as far as instruction goes you probably will not find anything better. All school have their challenges (public school can not turn away children regardless of their race) Junkins is a public school with a private school climate. Stop all this negativity, think about how this makes the staff feels when they report to work everyday to teach our children. If you think the school is poorly managed then volunteer your time to assist. If you think instruction is poor volunteer your services to help tutor. Putting negative comments on a sounding board is never productive for anyone involved.

This is the best public school I have seen. There are many cultures here and I think that is a good thing. The school is overcrowed and many parents are anxious to see the lines changed for next year. Parents need to be involved in a nice way. We should all be here for our babys.

We love it here. We moved to the area after a visit last year. The teachers are nice and my child does not get bored. He loves the computers and the big computer screen his teacher uses in class. He had a Maverick read to him at school and we has not stopped talking about the pirate day. There are so many parents that help here. It is a nice family and we find it very easy to talk to Mrs. Walker if we need anything. We love the website and the new gradebook system.

As a parent and a Junkins PTA member I must agree and disagree with some of the comments. Yes the school is over crowded, some questions go unanswered, hard to contact the principal. However I know for a fact that ALL the children are receiving a terrific education. You all must remember that this is about the kids. You cannot be upset that the administration wants the school to look nice. If you feel uninformed - GET INVOLVED! Don't complain and not be involved. The way to help your child;s school is to be a part of it. Volunteering even just a few hours during the year can make a difference. There is so much you as a parent could do, but to write and complain will not solve anything. If you want to talk to the principal - go to the PTA meetings - she is at EVERY Single One.
