CES is a wonderful school! Both of my children attended this school and my daughter is a current student. The teachers and staff truly have a heart for children! They put the needs of the student first in able to teach the whole child. The atmosphere of the campus is fun but you can see that student success is very important at the same time. They provide cutting-edge technology in every classroom that enable the teachers to teach the 21st century learner where they learn best. I am a proud Tiger parent and former teacher in this school. I highly recommend this campus to anyone!

Commerce Elementary is a great setting for children to begin their public education. Head Start and prekindergarten classes give young students an opportunity for a great beginning. Experienced teachers provide the foundations for school success through strong reading and math programs. Children are cared for not only in academics, but through counseling and school health programs. CES is a true learning community.

Remarkable teachers & staff! Tech-savvy tools, like Promethean boards in all of the classrooms! The school is beautifully diverse, comprised of children of the university's faculty & staff, as well as from many children from lower-socio-economic backgrounds, yet ALL are treated with love & respect. Coming from a big city, I wasn't sure what kind of educational experience my children would receive here, but I am so pleased & grateful. My kids are advanced readers & GT, and their teachers have continued to challenge them rather than fold them into mediocrity. This school works hard to give students a wonderful education, and particularly when parents are involved, children succeed.

My son is in kindergarten at CES, yet even after completing a year of pre-K at a different school, I was very concerned that he may have had a severe learning disability. He could not even comprehend basic ABC's, 123's, even something as simple as counting to ten. He started school at CES in November. His very first report card from CES confirmed that there was obviously a major problem. He knew 2 letters of the alphabet, and was very far behind the other children. I started working with him at home, and his teacher, Mrs. Novacek, worked with him so hard yet patiently...just 6 weeks in her class, my son learned more than he had in his entire life. He did a miracle educational turnaround. Thanks to teachers like these, they really care and devote their talents to our children. I owe Mrs. Novacek so much for saving my baby.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

The test results by subgroup show how the designated group of students is performing in comparison to the general population.
  • In 2010-2011, this school was rated "Academically Acceptable".
  • In 2009-2010, this school was rated "Academically Acceptable".
  • In 2008-2009, this school was rated "Recognized".

About the tests

Texas uses Accountability Ratings to indicate the overall performance of each school and district. The ratings are based on TAKS test results, dropout rates for grades 7 and 8 and school completion rates for grades 9 through 12. Schools and districts rated under standard accountability procedures are designated as Exemplary, Recognized, Academically Acceptable or Academically Unacceptable. Schools and districts rated under alternative education accountability (AEA) procedures are designated as either AEA: Academically Acceptable or AEA: Academically Unacceptable.
