Excellent School! Easy to get involved in extra acitcities for your child and you. The only thing I did not like is the portable house classrooms. The school has grown so that they added extra classes in outdoor buildings.

We love Hexter! The new Principal Jolee Healey has done an excellent job, scores are improving, and it looks like Recognized status is not too far off! My kids are leaving kindergarten able to read regular books, not just easy readers, and can even do fractions. The PTA is a VERY driven and successful force, and because of them, our kids have an art teacher, drama, music, and tons of extracurricular activities that most schools do not have. The zoning for the schools in Dallas are changing this fall, and Hexter will become a traditional neighborhood school, no more busing. I have nothing but good things to say about Hexter (other than a couple of little disagreements with my daughters teacher). It is a gem in DISD and I feel so lucky that my children are going to such a wonderful school.

This is a great community school with lots of parental involvement. There is an annual art fest held on the campus of Hexter. All proceeds from the art fest are used to boost the existing DISD arts program.

A school in transition. Hexter is reverting to a true neighborhood school for the 2006-07 school year, with the final busing students being sent to their own new neighborhood schools. The teachers are awesome - the new principal is on track to bring recognized accreditation, and the parents are putting in countless hours of time and dollars to provide the students and staff with tools to take Hexter to Blue Ribbon status. My son is in 4th grade, and has been at Hexter since K. The enrichment programs have and continue to grow: TAG, Art (provided through the fundraising efforts of the PTA), afterschool drama, chess, math, sports and choir programs plus the current and future reduced teacher/child ratio have provided my son and other children with an outstanding education that fully prepares them for their future education. Would that the upper schools will follow suit!

A wonderful school with highly educated teachers and a knowledgeable and enthusiastic principal. The PTA is very active and through fund raising has provided the school with an art teacher and other programs.

My daughter attended Hexter K-6 grade. It is a wonderful school with experienced teachers, the parents are involved and caring. I highly recommend it. Hexter as the feel of a small school, with everyone knowing everybody, but also offers the advantages of a large modern school. The principal is new this year, so have no input about her.

I have 3 children at Hexter ages 5, 8, 10. They all love Hexter and I feel they are getting a great education. The teachers are wonderful.

I have known many of the teachers at Hexter, and many have worked with me to help my children learn in other ways if the presented way does not work. In 2003 - 04 class, because of trying to figure out the best way to teach 5th graders and have them move to different teachers in the day, it was trial and error for a bit until the kinks were worked out. This had an effect on the class as a whole (as seen from test scores) but overall the teachers really do care and want to teach the children and work with the parents.

My child and I have reciently moved here from Wichta. Although, Hexter has a great principal. One of male teachers, I'm not real happy with his techique of teaching class. I belive when a student asks for help with his school work, it is the teachers job to do so. Especially when the student is having some problems keeping up cause of the move!

Principal Chris Nee is great. She and the PTA get along and work together for the greater good of the school. Fantastic art program. My only complaint is the bussing.
