Highland Park is an excellent school with an exceptional academically talented student body. The only concerns I have about this school fall into three categories: availability of extracurricular activities, lack of emphasis on foreign language and extremely limited access to Talented and Gifted Programming. Due to funding limitations, art and foreign are no longer offered as part of core corriculum in the 6th grade; the music program is small and not well supported; and TAG has become the domain of high performing ADD and ADHD children and excludes children who learn 'normally' and perform at an exceptional academic level (96% and higher). Nothing of note is offered to challenge these children above normal classroom work and I feel they are short-changed in their learning experience.
