Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

The teachers are given out of date curriculum. There is no pacing guide for the subject areas.Very few teachers have over 5 years of experience. Teachers stay for a few years and move on. The school board gave the teachers a raise this year in hopes to keep teachers. The school has been open nearly 10 years and you would expect the school to be further along. The teachers are expected to be at the school by 7:30 and stay until 4:15. The SPED department has had multiple administrators and doesn't have all the paper work in order. Dr. Vicente Delgado has large amount of family/ church employees working for the school. The church family employees are in HR, daycare, kidzone, custodians, cafeteria, security, and cafeteria meals. There is a lacking amount of resource given to the teacher. The students are tested 3 weeks test, 6 weeks test, and benchmarks. This year the teachers were not notified properly of the number of ELL's in the classroom until May.The students were not given differentiation needs or expectations that the state requires for children who are ELL. Teachers must submit a print request and could wait from 24 hours-36hours.

I used to work for this district and I agree that they are limited on materials and technology. Students are very sweet but the administration lacks organization. It's a good district were they have loving teachers but the students deserve a bigger school district with more opportunities to grow. Public schools offer more opportunities than charter schools.

My child attended GRS since PK and is now headed for High School. And was accepted to a recognized magnet school! Sad to see that former employees bash on the school but when they were in need for money/job they accepted the position, shows where their hearts really were! Shame on you! IF you didn;t like the job you should've quit sooner! I didn't agree with all the strict rules BUT now I see that this helped in their formation because where my child was accepted they are expected to go above and beyond. Thank you GRS Administration & Teachers for the impact you had on my child! Quite a few 8th graders were accepted to various Magnet/Early College High Schools this should say something about GRS!!!! Way to go!!!!

You will always have unhappy teachers when things don't go their way. I work at a large ISD and I see it all the time. The teachers at GRS do care for the children and the environment is better than other schools. I would not move my kids from GRS district. You will always find something negative anywhere you go but thats life live with it or move. Charter Schools are a school of choice. And those teachers commenting negative more than likely got fired and now they are bad mouthing the schools. My husband and I have never experienced anything extreme at GRS. We are so excited for the new school year! Go EAGLES!!!

As a former teacher, please take your child to a different district where they will be exposed to many forms of technology and resources. This school district is horrible!!! The HR head is two faced and they are always firing teachers. Please take your child to a district where they will receive a better education. I am happy to be gone from that district and to a bigger and supportive district.

This school is horrible looking inside and out. They lack structure and organization. The people who work there are very unprofessional and do not have the skills necessary to provide an educational service to children. Why do they even have these schools. They are a joke.

My child attends Golden Rule Oak Cliff and Nueva Vida Daycare and as been for years. As a parent I may not like some of the strict uniform or other policies at times but I can undersand why nowadays they are needed. The safety of the children is important to me and the school. They jsut can not just let anyone come onto the grounds and pick up children or attend ceremonies. My child is learning and growing with her classmates, she is fond of her teachers and staff. She is happy there and as long as she is happy and learning and her saftey is important there then she will continue to attend. Yes maybe there could be some teachers or staff that may not be up to some peoples standards but there are those issues at all schools period. So hey parents communicate with their child about school and what goes on there and your childs teacher, stay informed make their face known around the school with staff and teachers, when in doubt or don't understand something speak up get answers get involved it is all for the benifit of your kid and their education. It is not just the teachers job alone to see that your kid gets the most out of school, it is the parents job as well.

There are worse places to enroll your child or work. If you are looking for someplace that will accept a teacher-intern, then go for it. You can do one year there to get your certification. If you are an experienced teacher, DO NOT accept a contract at GRCS. The students are largely homogeneous and very behind, but decently behaved. The students are not the problem; the administration is the problem. You cannot make your own copies; you will not get copies when needed. There is no curriculum; the textbooks are severely outdated or just unusable. Classrooms are undersized and overfilled. There is no library. You will be lied to from your initial interview until you walk away. Some teachers are not certified; many have a limited proficiency in English. The students are required to take comprehensive 3 week, 6 week and benchmark exams each term. Attendance records are not accurately kept. If you send a student to the office, it will count against your PDAS evaluation; there is little to no administrative support for student discipline. If a parent is late, they must pay the church for babysitting. Few rooms had working technology or heat/AC. You will have ZERO budget money.

It is evident that the parent complaining here is one of those that teach his or her children the wrong thing. My children attended other schools and districts where they have the same rule. If parent follow the rules they should not have anything to complain. Perhaps this one would complain if the school would do nothing when a tragedy happens.

I agree with the teacher. Everyone is family there. I would love it if you could contact me. I am filing a complaint. I was denied access to my children for an event as a visitor. Against the law people.

Horrible school. Delgado only out to pocket as much money as possible. He earns more than Superintendents at school 2-5 times larger that Golden Rule School, not to mention everyone is is related despite nepotism laws. State and Federal laws do not matter to the Administration because the Principal use to work for the TEA and gets a heads up on complaints and audits. Good teachers quit with the hopes other schools know what a scam the school is and will not hold the broken contract against them.

I am very satisfied with having my son attend this school. Everyday he comes home talking about different things he learned in class. They're learning things I wasn't taught until middle school. We can be driving down the road and he'll just start talking about what he was taught. His grades are really good and the teachers are always willing to help and go out of their way to address any problems. Yes, a little improvement is needed in communication but I have seen an improvement from last year. I hope by the time my son goes to high school there is a high school campus. Not to mention that the security team in that school is very good. They open the door to my car to escort my son off my car and they know him by name.

As a parent I am embarrassed when I read comments like the previous one. The matter. Of the fact is these people are a bad example and not speaking the truth. As I previously commented, the school has been a great place for my child. Now that the school year is over, we will greatly miss the school. By the way, my son is so well prepared that he was admitted to DISD magnet school for law at Town View.

My son has been at this school since PreK and next school year he will be going to the 7th grade and will not be returning. when he first started the school was good not great but good. in the last maybe 2 yrs this school has gone to the dogs! 1st off if your child has a doctors appt u may want to schedule it in the morning because going to get the from school early is a challange in itself. i went at 2:15 to get my child and had to sign a note that if i didnt bring an excuse the next day he would be marked absent even tho they dismiss at 3. After 3 absence they send you to court! 2ndly the teachers they have now hardly speak english for me to understand, they send notices out the day before if the kids are out of school, the programs are during working hours and you are notified the day before. This year was the worst. they nolonger give the kids fair tickets and make them come to school for half day on their fair day. the people in the office are horrible. no matter the weather the kids cannot wear shorts cant cary backpacks after they made me buy the school's backpack..this school is horrible only worry about the test and not about the child education all because they rank low!!

If you love your children and want them to be in a nurturing emotional and academic setting, please do not send them to GRCS. I was a teacher there and left as soon as I could. Here's the basic model of the school, as I saw it: GRCS hires teachers that are enrolled in Alternative Certification programs and have Probationary Teaching Certificates (most public or legit private schools will not hire these teachers). These teachers need a Principal's signature at the end of their probationary year in order to get their Standard Teaching Certificate. So during that year, teachers are reduced to puppets of the administration. Then once they get the signature, they leave for greener pastures and GRCS hires a new crop of inexperienced teachers that they can control for a year. The result is chaos with no administrative accountability. Check the stats for GRCS on the TEA website for teacher turnover and experience. Oh, on top of all that this is a nepotistic family business with administrators all being related.

These ratings, unfortunately, seem to be placed by the administration. This school needs a lot of work to be any place that I would take my child. There is no leadership, students have 3, 4, 5 different teachers a year. Students are very stressed out by all the changes, most of which are totally unneccessary. Good teachers seem to get run off by the people in charge. It's a mess.

Congrats! The school year is almost over!!! I would just like to say that the faculty and staff there at Golden Rule are just awesome. I am very satisfied having my nieces and nephew there. I've seen so much improvements in their reading and math skills. Ms. Hall is very caring, loving, strong, passionate, can be mean at times but hey! its part of the job. Thank you so much Dr. Delgado for your vision and Mr. Mills for your excellent work keeping this school in such an awesome way.

I am so happy with the way this school is running this year! I have no problem with my sons' teacher. My son cannot wait to go show his teacher how he finished his homework and I love that he comes home with something new that he learned at school that day! Thank you for improving every year and for listening to my concerns. (thier staff are very good at calling you back-yeah it may take a while sometimes...but its better than recieving no call at all!)

I am so happy that my children are attended this school. They have the best teacher and support staff. I wish they can add grades 9th thru 12th for next school year. I think that I did the right thing when I change my children from public school to Golden Rule. They enjoy this school and like the safety environment they provide. Thank You to all the Golden Rule staff, specially to the teacher, Mr. Delgado and Mr. Mills

I am very happy with the progress this school has made over the years. The principal is set for his 2nd full year and seems to have great ideas and a teaching staff capable of doing a great job. I truly believe that this will be the best year yet. My kids are very excited about attending the Sunnyside campus.

I truly believe this is a great school. My children attended private then public school and even though we had a pretty good experience, attending Golden Rule really made a difference. The working together of principal and teachers with the parents, the discipline, the approachability and small classroom setting really helps the student overall. I am very happy with this school and would definitely recommend it to others. Thank you to the all the teachers and staff for all that you do for our children. I also appreciate the security and the after school care. Thank to all!

I believe that Golden Rule Schools,Inc. is a highly qualified school for students as well as teachers. The staff and administrators are always finding ways to help out the students and provide the best quality teaching. This year the school has added several extra curricluar activites for middle school students and I have been pleased with this outcome as I am sure the students are too. I would recommend this school to anyone. It is the best school in Oak Cliff!

I came to this school back in August of 2006. I have enjoyed working with the children, and the staff are great to work with as well. The principle, Mr. Donald Mills, has been very supportive to me. I am a new teacher, and he has made my first year a pleasant one. I am inspired by his love for teaching. The superintendent, Dr. Delgado, is great is well. Both he and Mr. Mills are very approachable, and I feel that makes for a good environment to work in. I look forward to coming back for another year of school in the fall.

This school is just perfect for us for because although our 3 children are 3 years apart, they can all be in the same school. The teachers here are very friendly and they wait outside the classroom after school until each child is picked up by parents. My husband and I are very happy to have our children in this school.

The principal has great experience and is vested in the learning of the children. She does hire new teachers, just as any school district, but has an extensive training program for them before their left alone. Extra curricular is limited, but the school makes up for it in other ways.

My younger brother attends this school. My mother makes several complaints daily about the staff and teachers. There are not very many extracurricular activities for the children, especially sports. The academic level is very poor. Some teachers are not even certified. I would rate this school poor and needs improvement in many areas.

This school could very well use a lot of improvement. The students should feel comfortable going to that school but instead they feel like they are going to a 'boot camp'. I have found ONE good teacher in this school and her name is Ms. Luna. She has been teaching in my sons Kinder class and is doing a wonderful job. I wish all teachers would follow her steps. Ms. Luna has the patience that you need to run a classroom. I did not want my child to attend public school but at this point I think it might be a better choice, not because of his current teacher but because of the overall school experience.

This school could use some improvements. Starting with the principal and her 'rule with an iron fist philoshopy'.I believe the parents concerns should be taken more seriously & not disregarded. Also there is no availabilty to take a complaint to the school board with problems. Choose carefully when looking into this school. When there is an issue to address you have to go through the very difficult principle.
