GREAT school!!! From the inspiring librarian Mrs. Hill, to the entertaining PE teacher Mr. Hudson, what a terrific staff! Mr. Flynn the principal, offers many activities throughout the year for the kids and their families and encourages parent involvement. The new assistant principal, Mrs. Poole is phenomenal! One of our children had her as his 3rd grade teacher and she is hands-down the best teacher any of our children have had; very happy to see her as an administrator and looking over all the children of the school. We will be sad when our youngest moves on to middle school and leave this fantastic school and its knowledgeable, compassionate, and hard working staff.
I have one child that has been at McNair from K-2nd grade and another that is finishing her kindergarten year. We love this school and have found all of the teachers to be very supportive and excellent at their jobs. The faculty is very friendly and parents are invited to volunteer at the school to support the teachers and staff. We are delighted to have our children at this school and look forward to the next several years we get to spend here! They have lots of activities throughout the year for the children and their families and that helps to get parents involved in their children's school.
This is an excellent school. My son attended McNair during all of his elementary years and excelled. Now my daughter is attending here and doing equally well. The teachers have been wonderful. This school encourages parent participation and I have volunteered in the classroom and at events on many occasions. Security is very good here. Everyone must check in and have legitimate reasons for being in the school to come in. The school has a thriving PTA and provides many exciting and educational opportunities for the kids. I couldn't be happier and take every opportunity to brag about my kids education. And the school continues to score EXEMPLARY for a good reason:)
I spend a lot of time at the school and have dealt with teachers at ALL grade levels including the office staff. They all have smiles on their faces and behind closed doors are also happy and excited to talk about what is going on in their classrooms. I see the teachers in their 'personal' space at school where any grumblings could occur. My child is very happy and has really accelerated in her learning. The Principal is open to new ideas and willing to help or particpate in any activity the parents ask him for help with. Having parents on campus and seeing the difference it makes to be involved helps set this school apart from others. We are staying in the area until our kids can finish MCNair! They are renovating it and that is only going to advance the learning possibilities! AAAA+++
McNair is an excellent elementary school in Denton and I am so happy with how my son is doing there. My son is new this year, having attended elementary school in another district. He struggled with his reading abilities at his previous school and as a result, his self-esteem was very, very low. At times he was actually scared to go to school because he knew he couldn't read as well as the other students in his class. We moved him to McNair this year and he has blossomed into a great reader (reading just above grade level) and has developed a passion for learning. His teacher understands that students develop at different rates and has truly helped transform him. I am so grateful each and every day for her presence in his life. The staff is also very friendly and supportive as well.
I am very unhappy with my experience at McNair Elementary. I find the staff/administration to be very condescending. I am tired of the lectures and nagging at parents. The school does not take any responsibility for how their policies could ever be what is causing the problem - the blame is always on the parent and what we need to do differently. Their mission statement says it all...rather than stating what the school aspires to be, apparently they are already perfect. So do not try to offer any suggestions or expect them to look at how any of their procedures may actually be what is causing any kind of problem.
My son has attended this school for 4 years, and is very happy. He has had very nurturing, professional, positive teachers who truly enjoy what they do. The teachers do a great job of communicating with parents, and there is a very positive energy throughout the school!
My daughter has attended Kindergarten and 1st grade at this school so far, and I am very pleased with how the school is run and how the kids are taught.
Absolutely awful! The teachers and staff were completely uncooperative with my special needs child and wouldn t follow instructions by outside professionals (psychotherapists, psychiatrists & pediatricians). In writing they would often agree but never did what they promised. They failed my child and caused more problems with their uncooperativeness. They reinforced many negative behaviors. They refused to educate themselves about my child, who needs were different, and decided they knew better than all the other professionals involved. It was a horrible, horrible experience. I would highly recommend getting an educational advocate for anyone who has a child who has any special needs.
This school is great! The third grade team is very nice! I feel like their is good parent involvement in this school.
For a public school, we are happy with the extra time and activities available to our son. Being dyslexic, we were worried that he would get pushed aside or take all the time needed for the rest of the class. They've added extra teachers to handle his difficulties and others like him in his class.
