Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

DeSoto East Middle School is the only school in District that has the highest scores for STAAR. The principal is working hard to make sure this school is always on the top. I have read some posts that do not like the school or the principal. It is only my opinion but if you don't like working at East Middle School or like the principal, leave. Why waste your time. You won't be missed.

Obviously the principal or her secretary wrote the positive reviews. No teacher at East would say Donna Blackburn is a great principal. If she was so great why does se have the highest turnover in the district? Why did 16 teachers leave this year eventhough she tried to block some by giving negative references or simply not calling back. She spends 95% of her time sitting in her office on the computer. The only time she is in the hallway is if central office comes by. She has a girl club at school that she chooses by hair length and skin color.....the longer the hair and lighter the skin the better for her. Isteam.....lol don't get confused that's a smoke screen I wouldn't put my dog in there. Blackburn should not be a principal, she things she has Dr Harris in her corner so now she thinks she can do anything. I have one more year and I'm done with school and done with Desoto East.

Great!!! We are now a magnet school for the very intelligent students in our south Dallas area. East Middle School is one of very few schools to win two distinctions in the 2013 school year.

This school is horrible! Ms.Nevels worries about the wrong things. Instead of worrying about our test scores she worries about our dresscode. We are very unorganzied. They pick at the littlest things. The teachers don't teach anything at all.

East is a wonderful school and I am proud to have worked with the administrators and staff. As teachers we work each day to make sure our students learn what they need to succeed in school and in life. We are raising tomorrows lawyers, doctors, teachers, scientists, etc. I saw many role models which is what the students at East need. To have a very positive and strong principal like Mrs. Freeling was like sprinkles on top of the cake. She motivated us each day and she was very easy to talk to, that is what we want in a leader. East has gone through some changes and have lost some really good teachers but have also gained some better ones. I am proud to say that I will always consider East my home. Room 202 (2007-2008)

The school atmosphere is very thick. I used to enter the school and the teachers looked happy, now they all look dull. It is as if they are just there. The principal seems to be really worried with how things look; this is really upsetting.

east has not gotten the reputation it deserves it has made recognizable strides in many areas academically as well as extra-curicular. the principal is one the districts best at motivating kids as well as teachers. the school has had the teacher of the year in science and math 2 years in a row with one of the best math instructors in the districts. comments negative to the school don't help change the way things are stacked against the school. the school manages more of the lower SES students than its counter part and has the least to work with in terms of support. parent involvement has to step up to change this. my kids attend and east proudly and they have been served well. parents sometimes want to be a smaller part of the process but want to complain the most. its getting better, bring your kids you'll see

I am very unhappy with this school. As for sports, the school holds this in high regards and only the best of the best will be able to play. Side note, be sure you are informed of all dates or you and your child will lose. I strongly urge parents to stay out of desoto isd schools if you are concerned about academics and your childs future.

East Junior High was poorly managed from the principal to the teachers. Not all of the teachers was bad, but most was only interested in policing the school instead of teaching. The principal was terrible. She spent her time trying to find bad things on the students instead of motivating them to become good scholars. She was not fair with her methods of punishment. She had different rules for some students than others and admitted to this. The one bright things is that the school district have a new superintendant and he seems to want to put the students first.
