FES is filled with wonderfully caring teachers and staff. No one falls between the cracks here. The student population is very diverse, and this is reflected in the school's TAKS scores. I do not think the scores are necessarily reflective of the quality of teaching which is high. One area of improvement would be in raising expectations for students that are working above grade level. Also, I would like to see more writing instruction in the early grades.

Our son was tested for giftedness as early as 2nd grade. He is continously challenged in new and fun ways!

We have been through three children in FES and I can say that all three have benefited greatly from the small town school experience.I will say that they have a good program for special needs children and that the teachers seem to truly care and go that extra mile. They should however consider a change at the Assistant principal level. I personally believe that the office is not being handled properly. It is not parent friendly.

The quality of academics at this school is average which is reflected in the TAKS (state) testing. Sometimes I feel they are catering to the lowest denominator instead of having high expectations for all students. I am thankful they have the standard music and art programs. They have recently starting a program for reading disabilities which is poorly understood by the faculty. There is no additional extracurricular activities like foreign language classes or chess club that I am aware of. This is a small community with several ranches so 4-H club is active. The level of parental involvement is poor. The school has approximately 800 students but PTA is attended by only a handful of parents. I filled out the volunteer forms for two years but have never been called. The administration has not encouraged input from parents regarding current or future programs at the school.
