Academic focus is passing the TAKS test. In comparison to friends and family's children's schools, this school is about 1/2 year behind theirs. Some, not all, teachers are too strict for children's maturity level. Seems to be alot more focus on play rather than learning. I.E Fun fridays, western day, ACES day, movie day, pajama day, going to local museum a million times, watching movies in library rather than reading. This is fine for pre-school, not first grade. The only homework is spelling words. I'm hoping this will improve once the change to the elementary school is made. It is a small town, so you tend to get to know the teachers, kids, and their parents.
