Best school ever ! A little tooo strict and there's no fights well thats good . The 8th grade assistant principle hes the best cause he's fair with all of his students and a great attitude ! the other office people are okay .
NOTHING CHANGED in Labay middle school there is still bullying all the time, I heard about a few at the beginning of this year. So please ladies don't even say this is a good school, THIS IS THE WORST SCHOOL ever .
Labay is a good school. I am very involved with my child's education & am up at the school often as a volunteer -- I witness first-hand. There was bullying in 2011 & 2012, but the principal and teachers have done a great job in curbing with zero tolerence policy both in school & social media. In fact, they go above and beyond by addressing cyber-bullying and make sure kids are held accountable (at least as far as school is concerned) -- something their parents should be doing -- Kudos to them! There are handful of amazing teachers there, but I will admit i am often shocked when I hear how some of the teachers treat the kids with a level of hostility & inpatience. I do agree that there is a greater focus on teaching kids in on-level classes to pass the standardized tests, but level 1 classes do a great job in splitting their time between teaching, test prep (standardized) and independent classwork. I do wish that they had more time & patience in addressing specific issues and question with the kids. Also love the districts online home access website where I can track my child's daily grades. Overall, excellent & diverse school.
I believe the school is not getting a fair shake. My daughter is in 7th grade at Labay. The teachers and administrators are great! They are caring and make learning fun. They challenge the students and also provide assistance when needed. The teachers keep us informed weekly through newsletters. The band teachers are outstanding! We are very pleased with the school. Being a teacher myself, I am aware that there are children who have difficulty following directions and behaving; it's everywhere and unfortunately many of those children misbehave in front of their own parents. Good parenting is the issue. Nevertheless, our daughter has not experienced anything adverse at Labay. It is a good school!
I had one child go to Labay, but felt he was short-changed on his education, so I have my other children attending a different middle school in the district. I have worked at Labay as a substitute and saw the difference in the school 4 years ago and now. The current principal came to Labay 4 years ago. I have heard her say that she wants her best teachers reaching the kids who struggle to pass STARR so test scores will go up at her school. She said, 'The smart kids can teach themselves.' That's why she builds the schedule so that all the new teachers have Level 1 classes, and the experienced t teachers in On-level. The experienced teachers are leaving as fast as they can. She also only hires very young teachers . Sometimes that turns out well, but about 75 percent of them think it is college-year5 and 6. That is why I can count on a substitute assignment there every day.
Labay is a horrible school the staff is awful and most of them need to retire. The staff has no respect for the students and they talk to them anyway they want to regardless if they are good students or not. I can't wait for my child to leave this school it is a mess.
I went to Labay in '96,'97, and '98. I don't know how this school has changed so drastically. I believe the parents need to be more accountable for their children. Faculty is awesome here and I would send my kids to Labay.
Labay Middle School is horrible and has been nothing but a complete nightmare for my 6th grade student. I agree with what others have said on here. My son has been kicked, pushed, hit, choked and ridiculed by other students. Especially two kids in particular. I've had meetings with the Principal and spoken with teachers and nothing is ever done. They talk a good talk but nothing is ever done to stop the issues. I am trying my hardest to move my child to another middle school please tell me how to get this done. I've tried just about everything and I'm banging my head up against the wall. I'm so frustrated and hurt so badly for my child and other students that I know are experiencing these same issues! I would be extremely angry if my child were bullying another student to where they didn't even want to attend school. The sickening thing is that we live within walking distance to a better middle school, instead I must drive him to and from school because the bus ride is another story within itself! Please help me move my child to a better school. I'm here to help you as well! I'm ready to march in front of this school I'm so tired of it!!!
The students are OUT OF CONTROL my child has been bullied and even teachers and assistance principals knew about it most the times it happened, things were just getting worst, there is a FIGHT EVERY SINGLE DAY, I do NOT recommend this school to any one, there are many schools where students are not allowed to talk in the halls so they have no opportunities to start a fight and teachers are really supervising all the campuses, definitely I am another parent PULLING MY CHILD FROM THIS SCHOOL. The bullying at this school is non stop
This school is supposedly to be bullying 0% tolerance; though, my child is been bully a couple of times. & because he defend himself pushing back he got in detention with a note. Now, he doesn't even respond. Last report card my son had a drop by 20 points in math from 86 to 67; I got shock his teacher did not even send a letter or something. The rest of his scores where upper 80's to 90+, but this got my attention. My son had forgot to return some homework though his test scores where above 90's this made him drop his scores. But, not even a note from his teacher. Weird. Regarding on sports, they offer football, basketball, softball, track. My son loves soccer, & even though there are a lot of kids wanting to play they don't consider or listen to put this sport as main one as per other middle schools in the region. Also, they have an after school detention. No matter what, if a student gets late in a class they will put him in detention. My son was once in this because he was in the restroom & a lane forms in breaks; he told his teacher & this didn't matter. I WAS WORRY & CALLED THE FRONT DESK THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHERE HE WAS & THE WORST THEY DIDN'T LET HIM CALL HOME, THAT SUCKS!!!!
The bullying at this school is non stop. I have had to intervene for two years. I agree with several other reviews on here. The teachers are great and the staff tries very hard but the kids are completely out of control and cruel. So many parents have pulled their kids from this school. I will be another one. There are tons of economically challenged kids here. Huge challenge with this schoo
The administrators and teachers are great. My son has thoroughly enjoyed going to Labay and has loved all his teachers.
this school is okay the teachers are great but most of the students are out of hand!
i love this school because of the academic rate of the school, the programs and specially the teachers. I love my school!!!!!
I am a first year teacher at Labay Middle School and I am constantly amazed at the level of caring and concern exhibited by the staff. Our principal is compassionate, supportive, and innovative. She is involved with the students and we all genuinely care about them. My goal as a teacher is to teach our children how to think; not what to think.
Labay has changed significantly over the past few years. The student population has become more diverse and there are substantially more economically disadvantaged students than 5 years ago. Teachers and administrators are struggling to keep expectations high and it seems to be working. My student feels safe and is learning way more than I really thought they were able at 6th grade level. The science and math departments are excellent. There are many parents that stay involved and the musicchoir dept is one of the best in the district. Principal is new as of Spring 2005 but she seems firm, knowledgeable and is bilingual. We cant wait to see and hear from her more.
From my 3 years of experience with Labay I give the Teachers who taught my child an 'A'. Ninety percent are excellent. The Parents-there is no PTO-help with dances, rewarding Teachers and the odd event but their input, based upon my experience at other schools, is lacking. So the Parents get a 'C'. I would give the Gifted and Talented differentiated curriculum a 'C'. There is only one Gifted and Talented class per grade with the rest of the classes being clustered. In 8th grade the Gifted and Talented class focuses on doing worksheets and getting ready for the State TAKS test instead of developing well reasoned, well articulated opinions. The use of computer technology needs to improve so I would give computer technology use a 'D'. Labay offers many, many great extracurricular activities and gets an 'A+' for enrichment. Overall I give Labay a grade of 'B'.
