I went to Labay in '96,'97, and '98. I don't know how this school has changed so drastically. I believe the parents need to be more accountable for their children. Faculty is awesome here and I would send my kids to Labay.
Labay School WORST School ever don't know how its still rated 4 it suppose to be 1 just because some teachers are good but other than that its so bad ,many fights no control and the AP can't do anything .
Labay Middle School is horrible and has been nothing but a complete nightmare for my 6th grade student. I agree with what others have said on here. My son has been kicked, pushed, hit, choked and ridiculed by other students. Especially two kids in particular. I've had meetings with the Principal and spoken with teachers and nothing is ever done. They talk a good talk but nothing is ever done to stop the issues. I am trying my hardest to move my child to another middle school please tell me how to get this done. I've tried just about everything and I'm banging my head up against the wall. I'm so frustrated and hurt so badly for my child and other students that I know are experiencing these same issues! I would be extremely angry if my child were bullying another student to where they didn't even want to attend school. The sickening thing is that we live within walking distance to a better middle school, instead I must drive him to and from school because the bus ride is another story within itself! Please help me move my child to a better school. I'm here to help you as well! I'm ready to march in front of this school I'm so tired of it!!!
The students are OUT OF CONTROL my child has been bullied and even teachers and assistance principals knew about it most the times it happened, things were just getting worst, there is a FIGHT EVERY SINGLE DAY, I do NOT recommend this school to any one, there are many schools where students are not allowed to talk in the halls so they have no opportunities to start a fight and teachers are really supervising all the campuses, definitely I am another parent PULLING MY CHILD FROM THIS SCHOOL. The bullying at this school is non stop
This school is supposedly to be bullying 0% tolerance; though, my child is been bully a couple of times. & because he defend himself pushing back he got in detention with a note. Now, he doesn't even respond. Last report card my son had a drop by 20 points in math from 86 to 67; I got shock his teacher did not even send a letter or something. The rest of his scores where upper 80's to 90+, but this got my attention. My son had forgot to return some homework though his test scores where above 90's this made him drop his scores. But, not even a note from his teacher. Weird. Regarding on sports, they offer football, basketball, softball, track. My son loves soccer, & even though there are a lot of kids wanting to play they don't consider or listen to put this sport as main one as per other middle schools in the region. Also, they have an after school detention. No matter what, if a student gets late in a class they will put him in detention. My son was once in this because he was in the restroom & a lane forms in breaks; he told his teacher & this didn't matter. I WAS WORRY & CALLED THE FRONT DESK THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHERE HE WAS & THE WORST THEY DIDN'T LET HIM CALL HOME, THAT SUCKS!!!!
The bullying at this school is non stop. I have had to intervene for two years. I agree with several other reviews on here. The teachers are great and the staff tries very hard but the kids are completely out of control and cruel. So many parents have pulled their kids from this school. I will be another one. There are tons of economically challenged kids here. Huge challenge with this schoo
The administrators and teachers are great. My son has thoroughly enjoyed going to Labay and has loved all his teachers.
i love this school because of the academic rate of the school, the programs and specially the teachers. I love my school!!!!!
I am a first year teacher at Labay Middle School and I am constantly amazed at the level of caring and concern exhibited by the staff. Our principal is compassionate, supportive, and innovative. She is involved with the students and we all genuinely care about them. My goal as a teacher is to teach our children how to think; not what to think.
Labay has changed significantly over the past few years. The student population has become more diverse and there are substantially more economically disadvantaged students than 5 years ago. Teachers and administrators are struggling to keep expectations high and it seems to be working. My student feels safe and is learning way more than I really thought they were able at 6th grade level. The science and math departments are excellent. There are many parents that stay involved and the musicchoir dept is one of the best in the district. Principal is new as of Spring 2005 but she seems firm, knowledgeable and is bilingual. We cant wait to see and hear from her more.
From my 3 years of experience with Labay I give the Teachers who taught my child an 'A'. Ninety percent are excellent. The Parents-there is no PTO-help with dances, rewarding Teachers and the odd event but their input, based upon my experience at other schools, is lacking. So the Parents get a 'C'. I would give the Gifted and Talented differentiated curriculum a 'C'. There is only one Gifted and Talented class per grade with the rest of the classes being clustered. In 8th grade the Gifted and Talented class focuses on doing worksheets and getting ready for the State TAKS test instead of developing well reasoned, well articulated opinions. The use of computer technology needs to improve so I would give computer technology use a 'D'. Labay offers many, many great extracurricular activities and gets an 'A+' for enrichment. Overall I give Labay a grade of 'B'.
