I am relocating to Houston,TX mid next year.. My workplace is around the Tx Medical center.. I want to find a location/neighborhood where Elementary, Middle and High schools are good..Any suggestions please. Thanks much!
My sister-in-law has been working in the med center for years and lives in the Spring Valley area, near I-10 Katy Fwy. & Bingle/Voss. They have a number of excellent options in the area, as they live in Spring Branch ISD, probably the top public school district in the Houston area, IMO, and zoned to the top high school (Memorial HS) within the district. Also, there are a some really great private schools nearby -- Awty International, Second Baptist, et al.78153
One of the best neighborhoods near the med center is Southgate. The elementary school there, Roberts, is a pre-IB school and is highly rated. When we left Houston a few years ago, one of my biggest regrets was leaving the high quality education available at Roberts. You might also want to look at living in West University or in Bellaire, both communities with highly rated schools, whether or not your child is in the Vanguard or gifted programs.78054
Sorry! I didn't see the Medical Center part. Thanks!
Please check out Holy Trinity Episcopal School located in Northeast Houston/Humble. Holy Trinity has grades PK3 to 12th grade. My son has been a student for 4 years and absolutely loves everything about it. HTES has small class sizes. It is a safe place and a challenging environment that is dedicated to developing the whole child through academic excellence, service learning, and spiritual development.
The Stanford, a national assessment, is given at HTES. Every grade level scores at least two grade levels above on an average.77992
BTW.. Currently my kid is in a magnet school and is part of the gifted and talented program in Louisiana... I saw some schools tagged as magnet in Houston, TX but the www.greatshools.org ratings are not high..so a bit confused to how a magnet school can have low rating.. I might be missing something.
Also wondering if we move to Houston.. would magnet schools in Houston acknowledge that my kid is already tested in lousiana and take her in directry or does she have go though the whole magnet process again. 75166
You should move to the Champion Forest area and send your child to Theiss Elementary, Doerre Intermediate, and Klein High School, in that order. My child is valedictorian at Harvard after attending these schools. 75107
