I loathe this school district. I am not just a parent submitting a review; I also attended this school during my high school years. I transferred from a metropolitan area to this school district. Iola s main focus is athletics and band so as far as extra curricular programs they are extremely lacking. The school only offers what the state requires for your child to graduate. So if your child has any extra credits from another school district they might not recognize them because they don t offer the courses like photography and German for example. This happened to me personally when I transferred to this school. They are a small town school with small town views that shun outsiders from big cities. The teachers here have pet students that can do no wrong, and get privileges not permitted to the rest of the students. The school in the past has had a dilemma with UIL for giving their football players passing grades just to keep on the team. If your child doesn t fit in he or she will be doomed and be prepared to fight a loosing battle, and get away from this school, like I did with my child. The problems here at this school are not worth your child s future.
I thinks Iola is a great school! i used to go there class of 2004
I Think Iola need's a new principal, the principal is not a good one. The extracurricular activities are good they have a great band. I would not recommend this school if you have a child that has ever been into trouble. They are very unfair on their punishments.
Excelent music program from 5th grade - 12. Parent involvment in all aspects - extremely high. Speech and Drama needs work. All academic UIL is weak. Alot of emphasis on sports. Coaches sometimes get too rough for age group.
My son is a senior at Iola this year. I believe that moving to Iola has been the best move we could have made. He is very well rounded both academically and personnally.
Well I'm not a parent, but I do attend Iola High School, and which I have for half a year, and I think it's the one of the best schools around because we have a very good environment and there is very good teaching.
This school needs more extracurricular activities for the kids that do not play sports so all of the children can have fun in school and out of school. The Iola school should be open till six o'clock so all the kids can come in and play basketball in the Gym or go get help on their homework or just stay in the school and just visit with the kids and teachers. I think this will keep more kids off drugs. And some parents do not get home till six o'clock, and if the school stays open till 6 or 7 o'clock all the children would have a place to stay after school instead of going home alone and the kids would be safer.
