Sterling Classical School has been such a refreshing change for our kids, after two years in the public school system. We love that the curriculum is challenging and that they stay true to the classical model, but beyond that, we truly value that each and every teacher is just as interested in developing our children's character as they are their intellect. Our children have not only had a very academically successful (though challenging) year, they have truly thrived. What a blessing this school and the university model has been to us and our family!

We have had a great first year at Sterling. The teachers our kids have had are kind, gifted in teaching, and very encouraging. We are so thankful to have found this school!

This school, though it strives to be a successful University Model School, has little direction. Curriculum planning boils down to textbooks being divided up by pages throughout the school year. I've found that my role as a parent on home days was not about teaching, but rather grading endless math, grammar, and spelling assignments that had to be completed regardless if the child understood the concept or not. The school also bends the rules for certain families (but not all) in regards to extra curricular classes and use of certain textbooks.

The school seems to be mentored by Regents in Austin. We aren't sure why Regents is so integral, but think it would benefit Sterling to compare themselves to a school who is like themselves ( university model), and with families who are financially more like the ones at Sterling as well. It is great to have people to follow, but the Chapel uniforms for the upper class are extreme for this tiny, modest school where the kids will be sitting on the floor in the gym for chapel. That part doesn't bother my family AT ALL, we are used to the Sterling that isn't so fancy. We can build respect for our community and each other, and learn above the curve, while whole heartedly serving our Lord without breaking the bank. Does our Heavenly Father really want us to spend an excess amount on clothing to wear four times a year so that we can worship Him??

Regarding the post on Feb 20, 2014 about peanut allergies. There is a young boy in my son's Kinder class who is deathly allergic to peanuts and a few other things. While the class/school isn't peanut free, his parents have worked with him throughout his life to know what questions to ask and to be aware of what is around you. The class immediately pulled together and noted who had a peanut free home - the teacher sat those students at the same table. Then we all agreed not to bring peanut products to school and if we had them at home to make sure we washed hands and faces WELL before heading out the door. If even a little of the oil got on him the office would have to give him his shot and call 911. All this to say that maybe the school is not peanut free, but the administration, teachers and parents are always pulling together to support one another and ensure the safety and positive learning environment of the kids. I have been at Sterling for 2 years - currently my kids are in Kinder and 2nd. The education is excellent and the character development is wonderful! The PTF really gets everyone involved and the teachers - WOW, won't find better ANYWHERE! Wish I had more room. :)

Finally a school where my kids learn, thrive and enjoy going to. I really wish I could take my RRISD tax money and use it at Sterling. My children were all extremely bored in RRISD. The high expectations academically and socially are a welcome educational change. Our kids' teachers truly care about my children as people and are always available to ask questions of. The less stressful school schedule and self paced homework are perfect. I am so glad we found Sterling. I am not sure about the peanut allergy comment. A student in one of my students classroom has a severe nut allergy. We were informed of it and we don't send any food with nuts in it on school days. It is no big deal. The mom told the class at the open house and we all asked what we can do to help her child stay safe at school. My kids can have nut products at home.

I was very disappointed that the school not only refused to make any accommodation for my daughter's peanut allergy but also refused to hold her spot for two weeks awaiting the results of her latest food challenge at our allergist. I am shocked that making a classroom peanut free was such an imposition for them considering much smaller schools with fewer resources manage to successfully be peanut free because peanut allergies are so common.

Sterling provides excellent classes and life skills. Sports program is growing and the parents are very involed in all aspects. We love the two home days a week and the self discipline this is teaching our young people.

I found this school through a friend and it has been a God send! The parents are all very involved and the teachers are wonderful! I have one in pre-k and one in first grade. I am so blessed to have found a school who cares about the the child as a whole. They recognize the individuality of each student. The student to teacher ratio is low also. Would recommend this school to any parent that is looking for a school ware they can be hands on and Christ centered!
