Both of our children have received a quality education from Leonard Elementary. The teachers are caring and attentive. The principal is very visible in the halls and and during activities, which contributes to the smooth operation of the school day. They offer an excellent gifted and talented program and plenty of activites. Sports are organized by members of the community, and the school advertizes the programs well. I appreciate the love and dedication of the entire staff.

The teachers are great and the parents are nice enough. I did have an issue with the special needs programs and extra help for the ones that need it, it just wasnt available and that is disturbing.

I believe this school district lacks a lot in terms of education and extra curricular activities. I have lived here 3 years ad have found several flaws in the system. The test scores tell it all. The teachers are underpaid and it shows in their care for the classroom activities and the quality of education the kids get.

About the tests

In 2010-2011, the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) was used to test students in reading in grades 3 through 9; in writing in grades 4 and 7; in English language arts in grades 10 and 11; in mathematics in grades 3 through 11; in science in grades 5, 8, 10 and 11; and in social studies in grades 8, 10 and 11. TAKS is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Texas. The grade 11 Exit Level TAKS is a high school graduation requirement. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.
