Excellent JROTC program. I love how the parents are involved and Col. Jokem and Sgt. Mjr. Kermode are the best of the best. Any parent that has a child wanting into ROTC run don't walk but run to the ROTC room! They are not recruiters they are just teaching a basic knowledge of a working military and ethics that will stay with you for life!
The teachers, the band, the tennis coach, the administration and the kids are a great group.......really care!!
Teachers in Poteet really care about their students, They helped my son and gave him a 100% of care and attention. We will always be grateful to staff and administration.
In 2004 I graduated from Poteet, at the time I could not stand there strict rules, 'mean' principle, etc, I'm thankful to have had such an involved staff of teachers whom's main concern was the student and graduating, I did excellent on my tests, good grades, not to mention was able to overcome a lot of teenage deppression with the help of one on one time with the counselor there. I love Poteet, I recently paid a visit and am happy to see the same familiar faces there.
Both of my boys attend this school. As far as the staff teachers, administrators, coaches, special Ed, and nurse this is the best school I could think of for my boys to be there. They are very helpful in every need of my two boys. They are very willing and concerned when it comes to the education of the kids. The only down fall I see is the Dress COde (lack there of). My son received a detention for his shirt tail being out. (Which is fine) However, they need to make sure this applies to everyone not picking someone out. I see many students with their shorts hanging over there rear ends. Shirts not in and girls wearing horrible tops. If you are going to have a dress code then by all means stick to it!
Awesome school. Great kids, good teachers, good administration, and great extracurricular activities. One of the best in north texas.
I am a parent of a student at Poteet High School and a former student myself. This is the best high school in Mesquite by far and did a great job of preparing me for college. The academics, athletics, band, and discipline at Poteet are great. The only negative thing I would say about the school is that the Pleasant Grove move in students from Dallas are hurting the academics and discipline slightly. The teachers, coaches, and administration is excellent.
I have two that have gone through the halls of Poteet High School. They received a wonderful education and where more than prepared for the college life that follow due to the prepared teachers that taught them each day.
My son has just completed his freshman year at Poteet. I was very pleased with the faculty and administrative staff. They exercise a zero tolerance policy in reference to the district policy and I enjoyed sending my son to a school where I felt he was safe and had to look like a student every day.
My dtr. just completed 9th grade at Poteet. We have been very pleased and it is by far the best school in Mesquite. First semester my dtr. tried juggling band and sports. The band director was great about splitting practice time with her sports (but this was state year for band). However, the freshman girls coach was terrible. He would get angry when she would have to leave for band. 2cd semester we dropped sports completely! Overall, Poteet is wonderful and I would recommend it to everyone.
Because Poteet had such an exemplary rating with the TEA, I was excited for my children to attend. However, it has been downhill ever since my daughter started 9th grade. They had just instituted a standardized dress code, that they could not consistently and uniformly enforce or describe, nor were area retailers notified of the restrictions. Several of the teachers are only teachers because they get summers, spring and holiday breaks, and it shows in their lackadaisical teaching manner. The Administrative staff is hardly within reach when issues arise.
My son will graduate in 2007. I do agree that Poteet is the best high school in the district. I agree there are good teachers and bad teacher. I feel there are some teachers at Poteet that treat the kids like they are in military school.
Both of my children went to this school and graduated by the year 2000. We feel strongly that they were given a good and thorough education. We found the teachers to be, for the most part, extremely diligent and kind. We were very satisfied with the music and drill team program overall. (The band program was/is superb!) The administration was exceptional during this time period as well. Parent involvement was extremely high.
I have two of children attending Poteet and this is, by far, the best school in the district. This school, like any other school, has its issues, but the administration and the teachers really care about their students and they continually motivate and encourage the students to strive for success.
I enjoyed my 4 years at Poteet High School. I was a member of the drill team for 3 years. I think that the adminstrative staff is awesome. They were always very helpful. The teacher were also very good. They seemed to care alot about their students and their work. I would not have wanted to attend any other high school in Mesquite.
My oldest child is attending Poteet and I would have him attend no other high school. This school is always pushing the students towards excellence. The administration is professional and caring. The teachers communicate well with the parents and the extra curricular activities are a class act.
I have had 2 children that have attended Poteet High School. My daughter graduated in 97 and my son will graduate in 2005. As with any school, there are good teachers and bad teachers. During my daughter's 4 years at Poteet, there were several teachers fired, and several more that should have been. So far during my son's years, there has been one of his teachers fired and so many that should be. They need to screen teachers a little more carefully. In conclusion, and in my opinion, Poteet High School, is an average High School.
I have a son who attends the school and he always complains about how his teachers seem races to the African American students. He also tells me how he see's other students being all sexually in the hallways and in some classrooms. Also this school have always had some real good athletes in their programs, but their talent was hidden by the coaches.
This is a wounderful school. My daughter has dyslexia and they have been very understanding and trying to help her get the credits that she needs for graduation. There really isn't much more to say. As with any there are about one of two of the teachers that I think is in the wrong profession but overall they are really good.
My oldest daughter was a freshman at Poteet the 2nd year the school opened. She went on to graduate from there & was followed the next year as her younger sister became a freshman. In the middle of that year my children & I moved, but I was so pleased with the education, staff, & others things that were made possible for my daughters. The three of us will always have great memomries & know from the schools we have been associated with since, Poteet is special, and we'll always be thankful.
