My daughter really enjoys the school, but not much of a challenge. Some of the teachers are excellent and others let the videos teach. The front desk staff are really rude. I think the ladies in the front must be anti-military; my husband wore his uniform in to pick up my daughter for an appt and they are accusatory and disrespectful "who are you and why are you taking her out!"...hmmm, he does have a name tag on...or maybe they are just rude to everyone! We really loved the middle school though (CMS).
I have a granddaughter that goes to Canyon High School... she informed me today that she could not eat because her lunch account was negative $6.00. I am a Cafeteria supervisor for a school in Ft. Worth and would never allow a student to go hunger. As I am sure you know the importance of eating to learn. I offer a PBJ and milk if the account is negative because I do not want any child to be hungry. Sad thought that this is being allowed in an school!
I really wanted to give my recent alma mater a perfect score, but that just isn't the case. Bullying and securtiy is not an issue between students, Every student will fall into some type of category and fit in. 95% of the teachers there are more than willing to help you as long as you ask. That being saidmost are quite partial to people in athletics. The staff that doesn't teach though is terrible. If you want anything done there or a question answered, then either wait 6 years or have a parent do it for you. No respect.
Great academics and test records and a broad range of classes that are challenging and apply for University credit.
Could be better. My son has Asperger and one of the Principles treated him as if he should just "get over it" and I was treated badly by this man until I brought another man in with me for our meetings. There are a handful of great teachers/counselors there, but there are some bad ones too. Also, bullies that get away with stuff while the innocent kids get punished. And some staff are rude. One tried to tell my to not drop my child off in a safe place because it wasn't the "proper place" and I told her we were there LONG before the school opened and I was not going to drop my child off among construction workers. No common sense with these people. I highly recommend Band Department, though!!
My child has been in CISD for 12 years and will be a senior at Canyon. I find many of the teachers and administration to be very rude. They seem to have two sets of rules and dress codes depending on who you are (athlete or cheerleader). Their girls sports programs are extremely competitive and basically your child has to seek outside training at an early age to learn the skills because they do not teach them in the school. My child loves the school - not sure why - because I loathe it. Graduation will be bitter sweet.
We are very happy with CHS. Two of our children have graduated with honors and excelled in college. The school has good/caring teachers and principals. Excellent extracurricular programs if the children want to get involved. I never heard our children even mention bullying.
Some of the staff is very rude. We are ex military and my kids changed schools frequently but this is the worse school we been in. Nobody seems to care about anything. I never get a straight answer to anything, not much is done about bullying, they took my daughter out her pre ap class without telling me or her.....I could go on and on......bottom line....I feel it is not a safe place for my daughter and I am seriously considering taking my daughter out.
We are new to the area and my son attends this school. He feels very comfortable with all of his teachers, and they have a new principal who used to be my son's jr high principal in another city. Teachers are very responsive to my son's needs and supportive. My son likes the relaxed atmosphere and has not encountered any issues from being the 'new kid' in school. So far, so good! The school is undergoing additional renovation.
satisfactory I see no personal involvement from teachers. Shouldn't they identify and notify a parent if a student is failing?
As a former student, and witness to the steps this campus takes to ensure safety and security in trying times, I can honestly say that this school is doing a good job educating kids despite enormous population growth Rules and policies are reviewed and revised every year by the scool board in response to new issues. My overall experience was good and my first two years in university were made all too easy thanks to the edcucation I recieved at this high school.
I have talked to the office staff with my children and they are very rude people. They do not respect my kids in any way and they talk to them as if they were four but worse, the rules and policy here at this school is horrible and should be revised. But the classes, some teachers, and the friends my children has made are fine. I like this school except for the staff and rules.
We moved to New Braunfels this year and my daughter is a freshman and I must say that Canyon is the worst experience we've ever had. There is definitely a bullying issue at this school and the teachers, staff and principal just seem to turn the other way and let this stuff happen. Its almost as if the students run this school. My child is a good student with a great personality and has been bullied and tormented by some of the girls at this school from day one. Talking to the principal sure didnt help anything, the incidents kept right on happening. We have since removed our child from this school and I wouldnt recommend this school to anyone.
I can only say that two of my children were very unhappy with some of the front office staff and counselors. In my experience with going with my children to talk to the counselors, I always felt like they were being forced to assist my children. I was sadden to see what my children were going through, and this was with my children taking AP-Courses and being in athletics. Well, both of my children graduated & are moving on . It is disapointing as a parent to see this happen to your children. I hope to see a change with the new leadership at CHS. All children should be treated with respspect and also given the correct information to succeed. Parents, counselors should be their to guide our children, not let them guide themselves. Always be there for your child..
We moved to New Braunfels last summer and our daughter enrolled as a freshman at Canyon in the fall. The transition has been smooth. Some classes have been challenging, but the teachers have been available for tutoring if needed. In fact, our daughter plans to take some Pre-AP courses next year at the recommendation of her teachers. She is also a member of the band, an excellent organization. Canyon has countless activities available to students in a variety of areas. Parents are very involved at Canyon High. Even though we are new to the community, it is very evident that students have the support of their parents and the community at-large in all of their endeavors. My daughter felt very accepted and welcomed at Canyon High. There are sub-groups within the school, but everyone seems to have a level of tolerance for one another that is rare at the high school level.
I personally graduated from Canyon. The teachers and staff are veryfriendly and willing to help students, but only if the students ask for help. I also realized that no one there pushes or encourages students to do their best or to go to college.
The classes are small which allows the teachers to give better personal attention, yet they dont push the kids to go the extra distance. it is true that some classes dont really do much, but there are great teachers too. there aren't as wide of a variety of extracurricular activities as some other schools, but what they do offer does have great coaches supporting it all.
Very, very satisfied with CHS. Good teachers, assistant principals, and principal. Excellent extracurricular programs.
Ok, so Canyon is a really great school, every extracurricular activity wins major awards in everything they do, aristicats-national champs, band-20th in 4a state last year, football-state quarterfinalists. We also have exemplary students, smart, creative, and they have a genunie small town politness about them. More students in other schools should be like them. The teachers are awesome too. Not only do they know what they are talking about but they care enough to give the students personal attention when they need it. They really go the extra distance.
