I admit, at first I wasn't thrilled with the fact that my child would be going to Shadycrest. It wasn't one of the 'big, new' schools. This is our 3rd year at Shadycrest and I have nothing negative to say about it. We love it! I too, volunteer many hours a week and see firsthand how much the PTA does to help our teachers. Last year we held our first-ever Carnival which raised enough money to put in a new playscape that our kids are now playing on. An event of that size takes many hard working volunteers. Anyone is welcome to join our group of over 150 volunteers. I think that number speaks volumes about the PTA. We gladly welcome anyone to help us out. There is a great camaraderie between us all and we strive to make everyone feel welcome.
There are a lot of us who spend several hours each week volunteering. If you have an issue with the PTA, you are welcome to come to the PTA meetings or come up the school and volunteer your time. I am sure you will see it in a different light. Great teachers and it is now and Exemplary school.
I have too kids at this school and they are doing awesome. The big issue with this school is the PTA. The Principal needs to take charge and clean up the sloppy mess they have created. They spend the majority of their time sitting around and gossiping rather than actual volunteering.
My daughter is in Pre-K at Shadycrest and she absolutely loves it! I am truly amazed at the skills my daughter has learned in such a short amount of time. Everyone is friendly and it is a great learning environment.
The school is a good school if you have a child that does generally well in school. However, they are not very responsive your child needs help.
Very poor special education!!!
I am the parent of a special needs third grader and a kindergartener. The principal knows all the students by name and is wonderful. The teachers overall have been great, although I feel that there is too much emphasis on teaching the students how to take the TAKS test. More 'hands-on' learning would be beneficial. The district does not currently have a very good program for gifted/talented students at the elementary level.
Shadycrest elementary provides an educational and a nurturing environment with teachers who truly care about the students and their achievments now and in the future. I have had nothing but positive experiences with both of my children at this school and I greatly appreciate the teachers and administrators.
My son is a special needs student whose program was not guided properly from day one at Shadycrest. We have now invested months of meetings trying to correct the issues with Shadycrest which seems to have orginazational difficulty and misinformation most of the time in regard to his education. I would recommend that if you have a choice of sending your child to any given school, not to send them here.
