I just graduated from Jasper, and I genuinely thought it was a pretty good experience. Yes, there is a lot of work. Yes, these is a lot of competition. However, I really liked all my teachers (Mr. Stanton is absolutely amazing; Mrs. Radebaugh for English was great too.) For people who discuss workload: This year I took 4 honors, 2 APs, and one regulars class. I never slept past one o'clock the entire year, and I would usually sleep at midnight. Even though I didn't have as crazy of a sleeping schedule as some of my peers, I was still able to maintain middle and high A's in all of my classes. I don't think the workload is excessive; I just feel as if a lot of people don't know how to manage their time well. I was involved in a plethora of extracurricular activities and was gone almost every weekend for debate competitions, but I still had enough time to sleep and balance schoolwork. I really liked Jasper, and I know it has a really poor reputation among students, but I do feel as it really helped me develop as a person and a learner.

I just graduated from Jasper this year, and I can say that it's really prepped me for the future. The academics are very competitive and very challenging, but once you get to Senior High/college, it will prepare you a lot more for what's to come. The vast majority of the teachers at this school are willing to educate you properly and actually make sure that the students understand the material. Some of the counselors are a bit snooty, however--they tend to get irritated with people taking too many AP courses. They have excellent extracurricular programs in LASER, HOSA, fine arts, etc. and also a really good Humanities program. Many students that go to this school end up getting into TAMS, and the competition for GPA and grades is very intense as a result. This school has helped many students achieve excellence. I have learned a lot about myself as a person through Jasper, even though I really had to push myself, it really did turn my life around. Even though your grades will go down in the beginning, you will get used to it, and you can pull them back up again. This school stands out among others in Plano based on the drive it places in other students to succeed in life.

We just moved from Liberty High School, and I must say, i am pretty impressed! People say Liberty is a good school, but to be honest, it is nothing compared to Jasper. JASPER IS ONE OF THE BEST SCHOOLS IN TEXAS! It has been on the Texas Business Education Coalition honor roll the past two years in row - only about 3% of the high schools in the state are selected for this honor. Students that go through Jasper are very well prepared for college. Great students, teachers, and parents all work together to achieve this high level of student success! Jasper has the best teachers and they really motivate kids to strive for success. They give ALOT of homework, which really prepares them for college. The curriculum and syllabus are college level, which is a good thing because college will be a breeze for these kids! My kids are always busy with project and other school work, and they are not even complaining! My elder daughter got a scholarship from Siemens through this school and my son, who goes to Plano West, will be going to Harvard! I now realized moving to Plano is the best thing that happened to my kids!

Best high school in Plano. Classes really prepare students for college. Competition is high and teachers really push the students. I love this school. I only wish my son could have attended Jasper but school redistricing is sending him to Clark.

Very rigorous academics, but that's a rare blessing in a school that helps prepare students for life. Outstanding extracurricular programs, particularly the music and out of school academic activities. With a good work ethic, any student has the potential to go as high as they want from this school.

Very competitive and challenging. Will definitely prepare your kids for senior high and college. Jasper students are usually the top kids in their senior high school. There is a lot of homework, but it will teach your kids to manage their time.

This school is an OK school, but I find they push the students too much. There are only a few good teachers, such as Mr. Stanton, the Humanities teacher. The rest are more of an'I'll pass out the worksheets and you do it' type of attitude. This school has too much social differences, such as kids cheating off each other. This school was decent for me, but I feel that the standards are too high and way too many projects are given.

This school gives way too much homework every day. True, they do say that they get extremely strict only to get them ready for senior high school and college, but I get upset and exhausted every day from working on homework until a minimum hour of two. This school is not recommended for children who like to get their regular 10 hours of slep a day.

Hi, I'm a sophmore at Jasper.. and most of the reviews are somewhat wrong.. First the one about regulars kids and honor's kids having no homework. I'm in both and both classes have a lot of homework. I mean a lot. It's just because the school wants to keep up with there test scores. 2.. not all teacher's are nice and caring.. some are kinda mean. And don't care.. just wanted to clear somethings up. But it's a great school because it may be competive and stuff but it helps in the longrun.

Jasper High School is really not as great as some think. The teachers strictly follow given curriculum and do not make personal connections with the students. Most take roll, push play on the video, and relax. In our experience here, we've only found two or three really good teachers who actually care about the kids and want them to learn. On the other hand, the drill team and music programs are wonderful. The coaches are outstanding motivators. The Humanities program is great, but is not open to all. That's Jasper's main problem: if you are gifted, you get the best teachers and opportunities. If you are simply average, you will not be challenged. Also, the school is very large. It is very easy to get lost in the crowd.

I moved to the district halfway through 9th grade and I have to say it has been amazing! The teachers are extremely kind and the competition is strong which helps everyone push each other along. Compared to my old school, the academics jumped 10 levels, it was a struggle to keep up but I'm about to say something no child really says, but because of Jasper academically, I love learning and school now. I would recommend this school to anyone who is willing to try. Trying is the key to success here.

Former student here. I had just moved into the district after freshman year and Jasper was where I zoned to. Let me say, that Jasper (and Plano West) blew away the other schools I've attended in my life. The academics are amazing, the teachers actually care and aren't just there for a paycheck. It didn't take me long to get adjusted. Great school! Would recommend it for anyone.

This school is too competitive. There is a big social gap between honors and regulars kids...and there is too much of a difference in the courseload between the two. My friends in honors classes go to sleep at 1-2 doing homework while regulars kids don't even have homework. Although some of the classes, like Humanities, are awesome, they still assign way too much homework. So if you want your child to have a life (and if he/she is one of those kids who take honors classes), don't send them to Jasper.

even thought the school starts off great it over stresses the child. regular classes are treated like honors. on days that should be cancelled due to rain and snow and sleet on the ground school continue's and many children are put in danger each year of over stress levels. it is a school full of bad pride.

Mr. Novotny is by far the most responsive and caring principal I have ever known. I have great respect for him and I think Jasper is lucky to have him.

This school is very unequal. Some teachers raise borderline smester GPA grades while others do not. (for example a 96 sem. avg. becomes 97; 92 becomes 93; 89 becomes 90.) Also, in the same subject with many different teachers, one teacher will grade way more harshly while another will take all completion grades. And for many subjects, worksheets that help for quizzes are always given AFTER taking the quiz. Many classes are oriented around meerly powerpoint note-taking. When students enter a classroom, the room will immediately become pitch-dark in order students to see the screen. Teachers refuse to print out copies of the powerpoint and make students copy notes everyday in order to take up take this way. This is their idea of making us 'learn'. Extracurricular activities are unorganized as well. I've payed $50 each to join various clubs such as HOSA yet the club has had no events/meetings

Jasper is a great school. Definitely the best high school in Plano. I would certainly glad my children to attend this school.

The administration at Jasper is completely lacking in vision. The test scores have nothing to do with the teaching staff but the fact that the students who go there are already bright. Students who need help don't get it. There are way too many students there for any type of quality education.

Michael Novotny and Burt Smith provide excellent leaership and are extremely responsive to parents. Speech pathologist is excellent. Humanities (gifted) class is stimulating but too many group projects.
