Profile Completeness

ADVANCED

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I am a parent of an 8th grader, and I love this school. The other reviews that complain about the clothing issues failed to mention that these rules are in the student/parent handbook that everyone received at the beginning of school. Even if you feel that your child's shoestrings or pants are not a big concern, the rules are still the rules, and I am very happy that my son is at a school where rules are expected to be followed. The teachers are great, and I appreciate all of their effort to teach our children.

I taught at this school for 11 years. It has excellent teachers, leadership, and cares about the future of all the students. For a public school it is wonderful. Discipline is part of life and so is character, integrity, and decor. This is why teachers care about the whole child.

To be honest this school wasnt all that great i went here from 07 to 08 ( my 8th grade year)and the quality has gone down the school is heavily over populated and they worry to much about very simple things such as if you shoes strings are not black or white and whether or not you have a small rip in your jeans the food is average and the lunches are horrible we cant sit where we want we cant talk above a whisper. And some students dont evan have time to eat becuase the lines are soooooooo long .I thought we came to school to learn, not to worry about weather or not we have a tear in a pair of jeans . And the school is too woried about there pride they want the school to look so nice they dont really focus on the learning as much.

My child has been going to Schrade for 3 years now. As a parent, I am not very happy with how the teachers & principles focus so much on whether their is a little tear in the jeans or such. I feel the schools have lost focus on the real reason that our children are in school which is called education. Even if you have a model student it doesn't matter that they work hard and make better grades than most but it seems to matter to the school to walk around and be the clothing police. As a parent I should not have to take off work to come bring another pair of pants because it had a small (not open) tear or my child will have to sit in RACK for the rest of the day because of it. This world is being less and less of a free country. It truly is sad and very disappointing. I would not recommend this school due to the what they call leadership.

If your child is a model student then maybe this is the school for you. However, if you have a child with learning differences, or ANY differences, be prepared to be treated as a second class citizen. The leadership in this school is inconsistent at best. If you have a problem, they will tell you what you want to hear to placate you, all the while your child will still endure the same problems over and over. Very poor supervision and very biased discipline. After many years in this school with multiple children, I can honestly say we have only encountered a small handful of caring, qualified teachers. They should be teaching elsewhere.

Standardize dress for students is an excellent idea. This wll alleviate another distraction and source of discourse for the kids and the the entire school (teachers, parents and students) can focus on the TRUE purpose of our education system. The 'individualism' and expression of 'originality' can be expressed after school and on weekends.

I personally think Schrade is a wonderful school. But why put them in uniforms. They won't be able to express there inner self. The food quality is low. The extra curricular activities at Schrade are some of the best in the district. I enjoy this school and look foward for attending my last year here. 2007-2008!

Schrade is a school that works very hard to help students achieve academic goals. I feel that sometimes parents overlook the fact that their children are accountable for their own work and grades, especially in middle school! I have found the teachers to be very helpful in assisting me in showing/teaching my child responsibility. The teachers post what they will be doing each week on the school website. All Garland schools are crowded, that is what happens when you get free choice of school. Parents want to send their kids to the better schools. I think we as parents need to support the teachers more and vote FOR a dress code....this way that would solve the problems of dress code issues. Overall, Schrade is one of the better Garland schools. You have to look at the student pop. this school services to really understand how hard their job is!

The quality of the teachers at schrade is high. But there is only so much you can do with the number of students here. There are way too many students for a school with this staff. It puts the teachers and principals in a stressful situation every day. The extra-curricular programs are top notch, and competitive, including choir and band. Parent involvement here seems low.

Schrade is a great school, overcrowding is a serious issue, but we are only overcrowded because so many parents send their kids to us, rather than their 'home school.' The teachers are dedicated, and strive to help your kids learn. The PTA is very active, but parental support drops of seriously after 6th grade. Schrade is a great school, it has the same problems other schools have, but that is more of a societal issue than school issue.

The school is too crowded. The district has a school of choice program, but it is not leveling the district. We have over 1300 students while some schools in the district have as few as 600. Makes for uncomfortable situations.

Schrade is an average school. They have average teachers and a good academic program, but their lunches are very low standard.Sometimes my child doesn't get a seat at lunch. If he does he has about a minute or so to eat it.Their athletic program is excellent!

So far our experience with the school has been fair. A syllabus and consistent homework assignments for all subjects would be helpful. In order to teach we must discipline and reward kids in order to reach the common goal-Accountability! Three Stars

The school is over-crowded to the point that students may not get a seat at lunch or may not even have time to eat their lunch at all. The tutorials are great, but they cancel them without notice, fairly regularly, which is not convenient if you take off work to drive your child to tutorials that aren't happening at their scheduled date & time. They have some admirable, dedicated teachers. They seem to invest too much energy worrying about the color of students' shoe strings. The whole vibe at the school seems adversarial. It left a bad taste in my mouth.
