I heard the kids in this school were a little rough, especially on the fields during games, but I thought maybe they were really competitive. We signed our 7 and 5yo up for camp this summer to test the water. On her 3rd day there my 7yo witnessed 3 girls bullying another. When she went to check on the girl she was grabbed from behind & held by one child while another kicked her! Teachers never mentioned it. We spoke with the director who assured us they would talk to the "one" who kicked her. I begged them to remind all students about bullying and how to report it. Two weeks later picking up my kids I heard chanting coming from the playground. Every kid on the playground (mine included) were surrounding a boy sitting on the floor chanting Cry Baby. Two teachers sat nearby chatting. I scolded my kids loudly and made them apologize, but walking away I realized the teachers never looked up and the kids were probably going to start up again. I had to go back & tell them to check on this boy. How can teachers ignore a child being bullied? In a Christian school! Again, director was unaware of it. I didn't feel my children were safe or being taught Christian values. That was our last day.

Great school for my children. I have my 2 children sent to this school for 4 years and we loved it and will keep them in. Teachers are great and they did their best to help each child and treat them equally.

This is the best school. The teachers are awesome. The teachers are always happy which they are not in other places. I love the curriculum and the hands-on education.

SHLS has been the best educational decision we have made for our children. With so many private school choices in San Antonio, we choose SHLS year after year because our children have made great strides educationally and spiritually, and the school supports the same values and ethics we have at home. SHLS is an extension of our family, from caring school and church staff, high credentialed educators, to well run cafeteria, sports, tech, and extracurricular programs, all helping to ensure my children become the best they can possibly be. For me and my family, there is no other choice.

Both of my children attended Shepherd of the Hills from preschool through 8th grade. Shepherd of the Hills provides a well-rounded education, focused on the whole child...spiritual, academic, social, and emotional development. Children attending Shepherd of the Hills are provided with many opportunitiies to develop their own individual strengths and abilities through strong academics, daily Bible lessons, weekly chapel, and varied extra-curricular activities such as band, sports, academic competitions through PSIA, scouts, and after-school clubs such as martial arts and jumprope, to name a few. Students are encouraged to be service-minded through supporting and encouraging a children's home in Haiti, and participating in student led service projects. Even though my children have completed their education, Shepherd of the Hills would still be my first choice in selecting a preschool through 8th grade program of education.

We just completed a tour of this school and registered. We felt welcomed and felt the family feeling on campus. We have attended other schools and feel that Shepherd is a safe, friendly, academic atmosphere for our child. We feel strongly about this school, that we are not waiting for next year...we are enrolling right now!

This school is INVOLVED. The teachers genuinely care about each of their students. They strive for top-notch education in all areas, and have recently taken great strides in the area of technology. The atmosphere is caring and Christian. My children love going to school each day.

Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran School and Childcare has been home to our granddaughter for 3 years nows. She began in preschool and is currently in first grade. The faculty and staff put forth their very best effort everyday creating a warm, Christian environment. If you're looking for a school that lives up to their Mission Statement: "Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran School and Childcare is a community of parents, students, and staff working together to foster Christ-like qualities in all we pursue: spiritual growth, academic excellence, social, emotional, and physical development," then this is the campus for you.

Nice nice Christian enviroment, but that's about it. Principal, very weak, not a strong leader or problem solver. Vice-principal even worse. Not a strong teaching staff, although there are a few outstanding teachers. My daughter, who went to Shepherd for three years, told me that Shepherd did not prepare her for high school. Have talked with other parents who share the same feelings, especially with math. Cafeteria food--forget it! With all the negatives, no wonder the number of students has dwindled. If a Christmas enviroment is what you're looking for, which was at the top of our list, then take a look at Shepherd. If not, do your child a favor & look elsewhere.

I went to Shepherd of the Hills for 11 years. It was my second home, their daycare staff are nice, caring, fun and truly love their jobs, I was in daycare from 6:30am-8am then 3pm-6:30pm until middle school-it was a great way to get my homework done before I went home, way to socialize and have fun. Every year the teachers were great! We were challanged in aloof the classes but if we struggled we could always get 1 on 1 help. The principal is a wonderful lady who is passionate about her job, she is always available to talk or listen. Finally, Wednesday chapels were amazing with the school minister, he is a great man with a love of sharing the message and love of God to God's children. Parents love the chapel partner program, a younger student is paired with an older student and each month they meet for an activity and will sit together in chapel, this promotes unity throughout the school. Yes, kids will use "bad words" once they get into 5-8th grade, to act cool but all kids in all schools have this problem, the staff handles this problem and disciplines accordingly. I recommend Shepherd to anyone, good for the tiny tots to the big kids!

So grateful for this school! My child is currently enrolled in the preschool program at Shepherd of the Hills and she loves it. The daily activities (even during PE) that involve the letter of the week are awesome. Teachers and staff are friendly and professional. My daughter was even had her baptism birthday recognized during the weekly chapel service! This is the first school she has ever attended and I am so very thankful she loves it and her teacher.

As an older parent of a pre-schooler, I have found that Shepherd of the Hills is exceptional. This child has been at the school since she was 17 months old and this is my second time around at Shepherd. I have 3 older sons who have become outstanding Christian men.

We moved here from Michigan in April and toured Shepherd of the Hills hoping to find a school for our two daughters similar to the one we left in Michigan. SH is really Lutheran in name only. Since most of the kids (we heard 90%) at Shepherd are not even members of the church the school is named after, they are forced to teach a homogenized version of Christianity which really isn't Lutheran at all. Ironically, we really liked the church and hoped the school would reflect the teachings of the church. It didn't. We met with staff and watched a chapel service and were very disappointed. If you're not a Lutheran and are looking for an alternative to public school SH might be the place for you. Facilities were old but generally clean. Sadly there is only one other Lutheran school in SA and that is where we ended up.

My two children both attended SHLS and then went on to attend the Lutheran High School. The education they received in both schools was outstanding and they have been very successful in the colleges of their choice. I can't tell you what a wonderful environment the staff and administration have created in both of these schools. There is truly a spirit of Christ-like people working to foster the growth of our children, as their mission statement suggests. We love our Lutheran, Christian schools! P.S. It would be unrealistic to say either of these schools are 'perfect' because we do still live on earth, but if you know of any schools this side of heaven which can claim perfection, do let me know!

Shepherd of the Hills has been a true benefit to all of my children. Our eldest son has succeeded beyond hopes in high school due to the training and learning habits instilled in his elementary and middle school years at Shepherd of the Hills. We have a daughter with special needs and her learning was always positively supported during her years at Shepherd. Her confidence and convictions as a Christian were richly nourished during her time at Shepherd. We have two other children still attending Shepherd of the Hills and we are confident that they are receiving a top-notch education along with a firm Christian foundation.

My son came to Shepherd of the Hills in the 2nd grade. Immediately he was accepted by his peers and loved by his teachers. Within 3 months we had our 4 year boy and 2 year old girl enrolled. The principal is always there if you have any questions, and always has time and a smile on her face for you. The addition of school uniforms this year was a blessing. We are excited about the great education our kids are receiving and the Christ-like environment has truly been a blessing. The extracurricular activities such as band, choir, girl/boy scouts, gymnastics, jumprope, tae kwon do and the variety of sports offered is truly a blessing. As a parents, I love the fact that I can have my kids in all of these extracurriculars without having to leave campus. By the way, we are now in our 4th year at SHLS.
