If you want your child to learn how to defend themselves then take them to that school. Other than that your kids will get hurt by other kids. Oh yeah the staff will not take care of them because they are to involved with their phones or just don't give a darn about your child. It's all about the money for them. Stay away from this place it is a hazard for your child but it is your decision don't say i didn't warn you.

My daughter is a student here and has been for a couple of years now. The first year was great but now it's ummm so so.... I say that because it is hard to get a hold of someone and/or them call you back without pulling teeth!! Everyone who works here is very friendly but the lack of organization seems to have taken over. Love the small classroom setting but I think the fact that it is the only charter school available around San Marcos area has gone over their heads.

After three years of struggling with administrators and teachers at Crockett Elementary I decided to change everything in my and my daughters life. First I hired a top notch tutor (Lee Anne Harper, one of the best tutors I have had the chance of meeting), and see a different nuerologist, Dr. Seals in San Antonio). My daughters tutor managed to take her from first grade to third grade reading level (in less than three weeks). Her new physician told me everything that her second grade teacher said she had was wrong. Her tutor asked me if I knew about Texas Prep school. I decided to check it out, and boy am I glad I did! She was right the school was a great change for Lauryn! Caring teachers and staff, tutoring from Sylvan tutoring service, and an emphasis on God, Country and being a good citizan has made her a totally different child. No more bullying (and I might say a teachers kid was bullying her at Crockett Elementary School). This is the only exemplarary school in San Marcos Texas for a reason. They really do a great job at teaching children!!!!

My child has flourished at the Early Learning Program at the Mitchell Center. The teacher (Ms. Griffin) is the best Pre-K teacher I've seen. She is nurturing without being condescending. She lays out the rules (age appropriate), and holds the kids accountable. She is fair, loving, and knows how to turn any behavior issue into a learning opportunity without demeaning the child. She talks to them like they are real people, and promotes "good choices". My child has learned so much at this school. The Director runs a tight ship, and is always on site and available to talk with parents. There has been some disorganization and miscommunication at times, but I think this is due to growing pains (1st year for the Mitchell Center location). The student /teacher ratio is also excellent. My child's class has about 15 kids, with 1 main teacher and always at least 2 assistant teachers at all times. The meals are standard public school fare, but if you want to send a healthier lunch with your child, they are fine with that. I can not speak to the main TPS campus, but the Mitchell Center is great.

This is not only a school, but a true second home to my kids and I trust every member of the staff that they will take care of them just as I do!!! Love that it is so different from the public school setting.

My son and daughter love going to school! Their reading and writing levels have improved tremendously and they are both more confident in all subject areas. TPS also did really well on last year's TAKS scores and the teachers & students are working really hard to do it again this year. This school also offers awesome electives like drama, journalism, and art which are a plus to their enrichment and success in school. It is a part of the Boys & Girls Club which offers a GREAT afterschool program until 6:30 p.m.(a plus for keeping my kids safe while I'm still at work) and they offer a homework help program with the Sylvan Learning Center. This school is the best!

Her reading level has gone up. She loves going to school . Their method of learning keeps her interested and eager to read and experiment. Great Teachers at TPS.!

No matter where your child goes to school there will always be an issue with bullying. Name one school that does not have this issue. My children have been attending TPS for two years now and I couldn't be happier. The staff greets you with a smile and is always helpful in every way possible. The teachers are great! They are really into teaching my kids and go to every extent to make it as interesting as possible. I believe that TPS is a great place for my children to learn and grow.

The faculty is generally supportive academically. However, the school lacks in discipline and bullying/dangerous horseplay is an ongoing issue.

Poor Quality of education....very low TAKS scores and little help from principal to help improve scores. The school is a haven for those who have children who have been dicipline problems at other schools. Be very wary of this school. Shady administrators.

Our child has done well here, but would anywhere. The very low student:teacher ratio that brought us here has disappeared with the combining of grade levels. We would like to see more administrative accountability and more money going into the classroom for the kids' learning and teaching, rather than spent on overabundance of administration/staff. There has been minimal to moderate availability of music, art and sports. The afterschool club is convenient for parents who work. The Parent group PEVO is trying really hard this year to make positive changes for the sake of the school and our children. We need cooperation from the administration to achieve this.

My son has been going to the prep school this year and he has so much help form the staff and the principal. I could not get the public school to check him for learning disablities the prep school did and a whole lot more. The class sizes are small and the children get alot of one on one in the classroom. I will be sending my son next year.

I am a parent of a kindergarten student who attends this school and has done very well. The students in my son's class are all reading above grade level and are extremely ready for first grade. The school does not stop at the state requirements. Students are encouraged to continue learning at all times. I am very pleased with the school.

This school has been a tremendous blessing to myself and my children. (even if they dont recognize it fully yet!) I no longer worry all day about their safety. I feel they are recieving a vary broad but in depth education.

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
