The current principal is lacking in leadership skills. Unfortunately, redistricting brought about many changes to Wakefield. The previous principal brought all of the great teachers with him to the new school- who could blame him? The new Wakefield is a disappointment. Principals in this district tend to move around quite a bit and so maybe this one will get reassigned somewhere else. I sense that teacher morale is low which is a shame for the students. The school has an "exemplary" rating which is based on future achievement, not actual achievement.

Our children have had an excellent year here at Wakefield. The teachers are caring and experienced and the leadership of the principal is amazing. He knows almost every one of the students' and families' names and makes personal contacts with each one. I couldn't ask for a better place to send my children to on a daily basis. I know they are in good hands and that they are prepared educationally. We are sad to see the changes for next year that has been brought about by the bond election, but we are excited about having a smaller 'community' school. We wish the administration and teachers leaving to go to Henry Sory the best of luck!

My son has attended Wakefield since he was in grade K. He will be moving to Sory next year due to where we live. His experiences at Wakefield have been nothing but positive. I have felt more than welcome to play an active role in his learning environment. The principal is amazing, as well as his office staff. (He will be moving to Sory next year, and we are thrilled). What I love most about Wakefield is the amazing effort that is made there to help every child feel important and a part of things. From the special needs children to the most advanced students, everyone has a place.

We have had 4 children attend Wakefield Elementary in Sherman over a span of 10 years. While it has historically been a good school, the current administration and faculty has excelled it to an outstanding school. It has a very warm, welcoming environment. There is strong community and parent support and you can't beat the quality of instruction at any level. The extracurricular activities offered at Wakefield far exceeds those of any other elementary school. The school motto last year was Wakefield Elementary School: Where everyone fits in! I couldn't put it in words any better myself. Way to go Wakefield!

My family is new to Sherman as we have lived in the Dallas Suburbs for years. We used this site to select the perfect school for our 2 children and Wakefield has exceeded our expectations. After visiting several other SISD campuses, as well as a few others in outlying communities, Wakefield was by far the friendliest and most helpful. They have provided a happy environment for our children to learn and the quality of professionalism - from the office staff to the teachers to the principal - has been exemplary! The leadership is strong, students and staff are happy, and the expectation for student achievement is high. One of our children receives special education services and the other is in G/T, and I cannot say enough positive things about the highest quality education they are both receiving. Wakefield is the place that any child will be successful.

Wakefield is the place for you if you desire just average! The Principal is new and is not equipped to be a leader. The teachers are all doing their own thing and nothing is done as a group. The school states that they are supposed to all be on the same page, however they are not. The lack of leadership shows itself the minute you enter the school, starting with the unprofessional office crew to the lazy teachers. There are a few very good teachers in that school, unfortunately the bad ones over shadow them. The only thing, that school cares about is passing the TAKS test. If the teachers would do their jobs they would not have to put everything on hold in Jan to cram for the test! Causing unnecessary stress on the children! This school needs some serious direction! It's a mess! Set some rules!

Wakefield has given my son problems since he's been diagnosed with ADD. They've been constantly making it difficult for him in learning. And if my son does something wrong that's caused by another student he get into trouble and not the other student. They play favorites and have made my son's year a nightmare. He truly hates going to Wakefield now and hates the teachers and principal. I plan on sending my son to another school next year. I'm very disappointed with Wakefield and its staff.

My daughter used to go to a private christian school but it got to expensive so we choice to sent her to public school. Wakefield has been a blessing. Wakefield is a school where the children come first. Each child is encouraged to do their personal best without being labeled as the smart or dumb kids. The teachers are highly skilled and work hard to bring out the best in each child. The principal is kind and knows each child by name. She is a great example of a leader. I can not even say that from the privat school my child attented. Thank you Wakefield for bringing out the best in my daughter and giving her the encouragement and confidence they need! I look forward to my son starting Kindergarden next year.
