My kids have been going to Camey for many years. I was hoping that after the last principal was gone, the school would be better.. NOT . I believe it has gone down hill. The staff spend to much time trying to get kids excited about going to school ( pep rally every Wednesday) Which I believe time NOT spend teaching. Also the fact that they hold ( or try to hold ) Tutoring in the a.m. and p.m. but cancel all the time. and some kids can't even get in to learn more. You have to be a certain kind of kid I guess to have tutoring. PTA is also a waste. they same one thing and do another. Talking to the New Principal and Vice Principal is like taking to the wall. If I were smart I would be home schooling my kids. :( 2 more year and I am out.. Hope it gets better with the new Building coming up soon.

For grades 3-5 in the subjects oh English and Language Arts plus Math the overall grades have fallen from the previous year. The teachers may be nice but nice doesn't improve grades.

After reading reviews, I was hesitant to send my daughter to Camey. We have been very pleased with all of the teachers at Camey. Not only do the students get Art, Music and PE but they also have Drama which my daughter absolutely loves! All the teachers my daughter has had at Camey are wonderful. The vibe in the front office has gone from an unhappy one to a much more positive upbeat vibe. I'm excited for the changes coming to Camey Elementary.

Tonight attended the PTA/parent Appreciation dinner and the 3rd grade presentation at Camey Elementary. I am a member of the PTA and am often astounded by the dedication of the parents and the teachers. 18 area restaurants donated a variety of delicious food for the families to enjoy and to mingle. We all had a grand time and enjoyed catching up after the long summer. There is no school tomorrow and free tickets to the state fair were given to each student. Texas pride runs deep and is encouraged! The annual Turkey Trot is next week and all the kids from the school will participate and be given a shirt for being part of this fun and healthy lifestyle encouraging activity. The school is always involved in the community and values hard work, commitment and instills a desire to help others and your community. It is indeed a great school and we are blessed that our children are able to attend there!

This school can definitely be very challenging . Most of the teachers rule with an iron fist, the office staff is rude and disorganized, the principal and vice principal are very defensive. I'm disappointed that my kids have to attend this school!!

I am in COMPLETE agreement with the most recent commenters. This school is entirely too uptight and spends more time writing children up than educating. If a 2nd grader has 52 Written Referrals..... how much time is the teacher actually spending teaching?! It seems to me to that they need to be more concerned about working with the child and not relinquishing their authority to the principal (who I agree is NEVER there) and the vice principal. Once you lose your ability to correct and deal with a situation in class.... you are DOOMED for the remainder of the school year with the children.

I agree with the parent review dated 12/10/11. I too am not comfortable with this principal and other staff's reactions when confronted with concerns regarding my child. I feel the principal has control issues and if an idea is not hers, she shoots it down. Some of the suggestions/recommendations I have been given relating to issues with my child have been ridiculous! I am sure there are some parents that do not speak up for their kids as they don't get anywhere. I also feel that the teachers are too harsh on the kids during lunch time.

I have wonderful experience with Camey. Teachers are great. I was little concerned when my older son started Kindergarten but now he is a third grader and love school. He is always excited to go to school. Teachers are great, very loving and caring. Principal knows all kids by name. Kids just love her. My younger son started Kindergarten this year and he has learned so much and excited to go to school everyday as well... Love the school and teachers

Camey has the best students and teachers in the Lewisville ISD. The students work extremely hard daily, and many of them attend Saturday school to help do well on their grades and the TAKS test. The teachers and principal and assistant principal pull together for the betterment of the kids in any given situation. It is a Title I school, but received the highest rating on TAKS last year due to hard work and school spirit!! Go Cobras....

The kids are too loud. My son has had to sign the book more then one time in lunch for forgetting his fork. And his pe on e told him if he went to the bathroom during pe he had to sign the book. My son wet his pants that day because he was scared of getting in trouble. Besides of a few mis used signs and lunch so early with no snack and my son having to go to recess 30min before school I have enjoyed camey. Hopefully the above issues can be adressed before next year.

My kid was not chllenged enough either. In addition, lunch hours are very early for the kids without a snack for first and second graders. Recess also need to be taken at the middle of the day not when they are getting to go home.

I'm not sure where the one parent got the information about not snacking. My children (and I've had children attending Camey since 1999) have ALWAYS been encouraged to bring a healthy snack to school, along with a bottle of water. I have been very pleased with most of the teachers my children have had guiding them, with the exception of a very few. The 'recess' at the end of the day isn't every day for every class. Each grade level can take advantage of 'reward time' on certain days of the week. Rewarding the kids for their good behavior and hard work is extremely important and I am glad to see it happening on a regular basis. Fantastic experiences for the most part.

Just because some of the teachers are not doing a great job, do not criticize them all. Most of the teachers that have been there for a long time are the ones who are doing a great job! I can defend the kindergarden department because I belive they are lacking as well, however beyond that I truely believe the teachers are doing a good job teaching, and disciplining the children. As a parent, you don't see the teacher, child interactions as I have quite often. Do I think all of the teachers should be there? No but to under rate the school because of your one or two years of bad experience is not fair! Plus, you must take into account that the new principal is not near as wonderful as the old one was!

The e teachers are good but don't challenge the kids. My kid was not challenged enough instead was punished for knowing more. They don't have enough P.E. program. They don't allow snacks in between class. Kids eat lunch at 10:40 and cannot eat until they get home. Our body needs food every two hours according to a dietican. They also let them take recess very late 30 minutes before they go home. I don't see the benefit of giving them a break at the end of the day. They need it during half of the day around noon . The school need to train the teachers to work on the child level instead of teaching the same level to all the kids. Some kids are advanced and they really need challenges that will keep their mind work.

Our family has been apart of Camey for 5 years and have been very pleased. We have loved all the teachers and the principal is the greatest! My children have been successful and enjoy school.

My children are well into their second year at Camey Elementary and honestly I feel that it lacks alot to be desired in comparison to other schools in the Dallas area. I feel that the education my children are receiving is about average, however it does not cater to the needs of the gifted/advanced students at the elementary level.

I have been part of Camey for 12 years now. Parental involvement goes up and down, currently in an upswing. Teachers have usually been easy to talk with and help in the working out of a challenge. Administration is EXCELLENT! Being involved in two other schools, I give Camey an 'A' on that. We now have a walker's club that meets before school everyday. There is also ample opportunity in The Colony to participate in recreational sports: soccer, baseball, football and basketball associations; biking & running clubs abound. The best way to insure a great education is to be involved in the school as best as your schedule will allow.

Wonderful teachers and Principal. The principal seems very involved and knows all the kids by name and their parents. I have been very happy with the education my children have received as well as the support. Don't think P.E. is like it use to be and kids don't seem to go outside and 'play' like we use too.

I agree with the other assessment of this school. PE is declining, there isn't a great deal of encouragement to play sports, etc.

Good school with great teachers. Quality of academics seems good. Lack of sports at lower grade levels. Young children are not encouraged to play sporting activities during recess. Encouraged to play on the playground while older grade levels can use the fields. Parent involvement for PTA meetings seems to be lacking, but those that do get involved do a great job. At a very young age, children are exposed to music, art and drama. Children learn a lot and are challeged through out the school year. LEAP program available for those that are gifted.
