Has taught my son the personal skill he needs to have a productive life. The goups and personal therapy were great.

Sorensons Ranch is under qualified to teach and properly monitor these students. They make kids walk 10 mile hikes, sometimes daily if they get in any trouble. They make them wear orange jumpsuits when in trouble. The teaching staff is apathetic, and does not care how long your kid is in their class. Sorensons is known for keeping your kid as long as they can. This helps line their pockets financially. They also refuse to release any school records if you have any balance owing them. They do not only charge the monthly fee, but dozens and dozens of extra fees that really add up substantially. If you dispute it- tough. No payment in full of every single charge no transcripts. Utah has so many of these schools because one they are so profitable, and the state is very lax with regulating them. This is a family run school by Mormons. They act superior to the parents. This school ranks low compared to it's peers. There are worse schools than Sorensons, so be careful. But there are much better ones as well. Do not send your kid to this school.

As a prior student as Sorensons ranch school i would not recommend this facility. They are based on a level system and as a prior student i have to say that i was not a favorite of a couple staff members and my positive level (4) which took me forever to get was put in jeopardy every time those staff came on shift. The staff members are very influenced by "their" favorits I took on the habit of secluding myself away from people due to the treatment of those staff. I had but 1 friend who i talked to regularly and still keep in contact with. My other experiences which i personally witnessed involved staff members not following retraining protocol and on a few occasions broke the bones of students they were restraining. While i was there i was subjected to 1 day of wearing an orange jumpsuit and hiking 10 miles (i still do not know what i did). During a visit from a health inspector it came to our attention that it is a form of public humiliation All in all sorensons is under qualified and teaches students to be more dishonest. They did help me with depression coping skills and getting ahead in school but that was all.

The truth is this: there is very dubious behavior transpiring here. Like many programs in Utah (where regulation is very lax) a great number of parents and students are claiming that this school is not what it seems. I with a group called CAFETY, and we strongly suspect this place is not telling the whole story to parents, that staff is under-qualified and students are kept here longer than necessary. A long standing psychological principle is that a patient should be kept in the least restrictive environment possible for as short a time as possible. We do not believe this school is practicing that principle. This among many other complaints. Please dig deeper concerning this facility.

Our son has attended Sorensons for about 4 months, we recieve updates on his behavior and studies weekly. Our son is severely troubled and has many psych. problems Sorensons appears to be meeting all of his needs and is effectively working towards helping him understand what needs to be done to live in the world. We tried public as well as home schooling but were unable to make any progress, we appreciate what they are doing to help him.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
