One of best schools in area: Teacher quality/support 4* Student attitudes 5* Special programs 5* Social experience 5* Administration support & friendliness 5* Tolerance of bullying 5* (no tolerance policy) Variety in studentbody demographics 2* Extracurricular programs 4* Eastwood is a stellar school. Regardless of where your child is in his or her academic progress, this school will challenge & help your child do their best. The principal is fantastic. Teachers are understanding & encourage social acceptance, paying close attention to what happens on the playground. They do not tolerate bullying or making fun of any children. Your kids will feel safe at school, excel, feel free to get involved, & make friends. Depending on the grade, your child will be placed in separate reading & math programs according to how they do on testing. The focus is balanced between maximizing academic performance & making the chlid's social experience as good as possible --- within the confines of a limited (largely homogenous) demographic group for radical & religious diversity. The lack of diversity and the lack of an art program are my only complaints. Most kids have a positive experience.
This is a school that actually really likes kids! The co-op program is stellar, as are the teachers. I feel so lucky to live nearby, but there are many families traveling from all over the valley to get their kids educated at this school. I feel that this is one of the best all around schools in Salt Lake.
Eastwood offers excellent teachers as well as a challenging environment. The icing on the cake is it's co-op program. Parents join together with the teachter to make their child's class an interactive and engaging experience. I am always amazed at the small army of dedicated parents that carry each co-op class along each year. Even if budgets are cut, I know my child will still be going on field trips and experiencing an enriched education. It's well worth the effort!
We looked, and tried, a few, other schools before finding our home at Eastwood. If you are tried of being treated like a number, if you want to be welcomed no matter your race, religion or income status... come to Eastwood Elementary. I could go on and on but really just come visit and you will feel the difference yourself !
Eastwood is very good with children who have behavior issues, so if you need help that you aren't getting at your neighborhood school, then Eastwood is a great alternative.
Best school in the Granite District by far! The teachers are amazing, and the front office staff are great too! They really get to know the kids and treat the kids like the amazing special kids that they all are! There is a lot of parental involvement at this school, which sets it apart from any other school in the district! I coop-ed in my daughters class for two years and loved it! All the kids are very accepting of each other and friendly!
Amazing teachers who care about the students success. Parental involvment is huge!
Eastwood takes education seriously and has many great programs for students. There is a lot of parent involvement and the teachers are caring and take education seriously. My only concern is the emphasis on testing. It's important but there are other ways of being 'bright' than testing well.
This school has extreme parent involvement. For the year 2007 there was over 1500 volunteer hours. It is a very academic school, geared toward the gifted and talented kids. There are many activities for students to be involved with; early morning language classes, chess classes, art start and many more.
My son is in second grade at Eastwood Elementary, which is Granite school district's Co-op school. Parental involvement is extremely high and the current principal, McCasland, is very involved with the students and faculty.
