The knock on NW school is its test scores, which are lower because the population the school serves is less academically oriented (more low income families, etc.). But listen. The leadership at NW school is fabulous, the classes are small, the teachers are caring and highly qualified, and kids get the attention they need whether that means extra help because of being behind or being ahead. Is there tons of extra support? Of course not, this is Vermont. More parental involvement would be a help to this school, but again a large percentage of the parents don't fit the profile of parents who are actively engaged in their kids education. We believe NW is a great school that is serving our kids very well. They LOVE going to school, feel loved and challenged by their teachers, and feel a sense of belonging that one can't put a price on.
It's disappointing that the test scores represent this school not in the best light. We have had a wonderful experience here with top notch educators. Northwest School is Rutland's best kept secret!!
Nice teachers. Caring staff and supports are in place to assist students who need help.
My son had a terrfiic kidergerten teacher. Class was small ~16 students. Two teacher helpers with additional teacher for weekly art, special needs and advanced stuents.
I'm a parent and I only have wonderful things to say about the school. My child is challenged academically and is exposed to a variety of subjects. Teh teachers and administration are engaged and show a genuine interest in my child's growth.
