In my previous post, I made an error when I stated that the families are being taken advantage* of because of the language barrier. It is because of the speech in the initial review that makes it painfully obvious that the review was indeed written by the administrator. It is easily recognized. The 5 star rating for teacher quality is correct because to hard work and care these wonderful teachers show in spite of the school's culture. The principal's leadership rating should be no more than 1 star. Parental involvement could and would be higher if they were given the opportunity to participate outside of International night in the spring.

This school has an amazing culture of collaboration. Teachers at Mount Vernon Woods ES care about kids first and are working to empower each child to be successful in school and in life. Although most students in the community are impacted by economic and social struggles, the atmosphere in the school is positive and respectful. The school has many programs that help meet the needs of the students and the community including a free Saturday School, a partnership with the Parks Department to provide computer lab access, and many adult learning opportunities for parents.
