I graduated from AHS, and I firmly believe I received an outstanding education there. I'm now a successful executive editor, and my love of writing and English was born in the AHS AP English classes. LIke everything in life, the school is what you make of it. So many of my classmates have gone on to have outstanding careers and successful lives. AHS gives every student the opportunity to excel in life, but the students have to choose to get involved, study hard and make the most of those precious high school years. I loved my experience there.

I am a student at alleghany. And so far i have learned that although ur school is not the best, it is what you make it to be. I appreciate the architecture, and history of the school. Now that we are facing state budget cuts, we will not be able to have a new school. Which is greatl needed. As there are mold and mildew issues esbestos. And not to mention the cockroaches. If your child has allergy problems.. it is not a good place for them. And if they have asthma.. forget it. We have no air conditioning. And for the first few months of school it can top 95 degrees. Just think about it before you send your child here..

My son and I moved into this community a few years ago. Be aware if you are a newcomer, your child will be disrespected. We have learned the hard way, if you are from this community and your family grew up here you will be treated greatly. Which for the children who have this background I applaud you. For the new children I am sorry for what you endure. Please think twice>.

I teach at Alleghany High School. At one point I was a parent of a student at AHS so I have experienced both aspects of AHS. I believe AHS is what you make it. If you want to participate, we have a lot of opportunities from sports, drama, music, clubs, etc. Teachers typically offer more than a teaching environment. We nurture and treat our students with dignity and respect. We teach because it is a calling and we enjoy the opportunity. Most students at AHS are so kind. Their is little violence due to the fact that most students are well behaved and care about their education. If you have not experienced our school environment, come and spend some time. You will find it is a great place to be!

This school is the pits. Compared to other schools students do absolutely no homework. Half of the senior class cant add or subtract. A real waste of taxpayers money

I am an AHS student. In my opinion, Alleghany is a really great school. We have amazing teachers and great SOL scores because of them. AHS is a rather rural school with a population of 836, but I actually prefer a smaller school to a larger one. Alleghany Mountaineer athletic events (especially Varsity Football and Varsity Boys Basketball) are very popular at AHS. A large percentage of students attend these games. We also have many clubs that students can be involved in such as Key Club, FCCLA, Beta Club, National Honor Society, Leadership, and FFA just to name a few. We also have a really great band with no less than 25% of the student population participating in band. Overall, Alleghany High School is a wonderful school and I am proud to be a Mountaineer.
