We moved to Herndon area last year and have been more than pleased with Floris school. Overall Fairfax county's curriculum itself is pretty solid. On top of that, the teachers that my kids have got so far have just been amazing!! The principal Ms. Porter is a very nice person to deal with and takes lot of interest in the school's activities. Every report card is personally signed by her with encouraging comments along with remarks for areas of improvement! I could not have been happier as they have great extracurricular activities like chess, science programs, Math Olympaid at such a large scale that, unlike other schools, almost no child is denied registration due to space issues. Moreover, the fees for these programs are also very reasonable. I would definitely recommend parents to consider this school as even the community has parents who are quite serious about academic achievements of their kids.

My kids went here for just a short time in 1999-2000. My son was in second grade, he was later diagnosed with asperger's syndrome. The teacher kept saying he wasn't writing his paragraphs. It turns out he couldn't even write a sentence let alone a paragraph. She would never let him eat his snack like the other children because he didn't do his work. I can't tell you how angry that makes me.

I love Floris. It is an excellent school with a very good school community. My experience with the teachers K-3 has been very good. The teachers were very attentive, responsive and the communication through BlackBoard is impressive. My son loves the school and refused to move to Oak Hill. Overall a A+.

I have one student who completed six years at Floris and another student curently attending. I have been very happy with all the teachers except the sixth grade. Parent/teacher interaction from the six grade teachers is almost non-existent. I found teacher conferences with the sixth grade teachers rudely cut-off even though I still had time left in my fifteen minutes. All other teachers in the other grades have been exceptional and have gone out of their way to work with the parents with very open communication. The principal and assistant principal are minimally effective and teachers have expressed frustation to me about them.

This is my son's first year of school and he does not enjoy going to Floris. His teacher is less than friendly. I would not recommend this school to anyone whose child does not have skin as thick as an adult's. I will be moving out of the Floris district so my son will no longer have to attend this school. After all the hype and great ratings this school definately falls short.

I happen to move in the area so that my kids can join this school. Teachers do not care to respond to students concern. Whenever i tried to have any conference with the teacher i get response that it is not needed at this time.

This is a great school. Principal is excellent and cares about the students. Teachers are also very good. Unnecessary acadamic pressure is not put on kids and kids enjoy going to school. On the other hand, kids who want to advance academically are given enough opportunities. This school has all levels of GT services. The school test scores are consistently high. It's a great place to start schooling. For me, it has been a very positive experience at Floris.
