I love Crenshaw Elementary. We moved here 3 years ago and I used this website to pick schools for my children. I have not been disappointed. The teachers and staff have always worked hard to give the children a great educational experience. All four of my children love this school!

I have had a mixed experience with the school, the teachers are great, but the administrators are poor, I had requested my child be tested for the IEP program and was denied after a very brief meeting. I believe the school clearly is run by the budget which is struggling at this time. Within the 2nd 9 weeks we were already discussing retension which I feel is a little premature. If we know there are areas that a child needs extra help early on, help should be offered in order to avoid retension, a more proactive approach would be more reasonable. Class sizes are too large for any child to receive any kind of attention.

Crenshaw Elementary serves an interestingly diverse population of students/families. My child enjoyed a wonderful year of Kindergarten and is now in First grade at Crenshaw. So far in our experience, the faculty and staff all show a sincere love for children. They demonstrate a desire to know the children individually and meet each child's unique educational needs.

Crenshaw teachers have bad communcation skills and if you want to talk with an adminstrator good luck.

As the mother of 5 children who have passed through the halls of Crenshaw, two of whom still attend there, I feel fairly qualified to speak about Crenshaw as a school. I have had mixed dealings with the faculty and staff of Crenshaw, some being very positive experiences, some very much not positive. Overall, I feel most of the teachers enjoy teaching there, and are very qualified, and enjoy teaching there. There are the few apples that are rotten, and those that are, really are rotten. The PTA is very involved in the school, and is strongly encouraged. The field trips have tended to be rather expensive, and often are in-school. The students are pushed to do well on the SOLs, but it seems to have paid off. There are opportunities for art and music, which is wonderful, and the gifted program is very good. Overall- a good school.

There are not enough advanced learning opportunities for younger children available at Crenshaw. Assignments are not challenging and our daughter is bored with what is being reviewed in her classroom.

I have had 2 children attend Crensha Elementary and have mixed experiences with administration and faculty. It is very evident there are teacheres who are there to help the kids and truly love their jobs and you have the teachers who no longer have a passion for teaching and it reflects in their teaching. As for the administration - the principal and asst principal have only been with the school 2 years and not much change has happen. Activities for the kids are needed other than sports for those who are not in it just 'to win the game'. THere is a strong sense of athletism at the school and can be overwhelming for some children

The quality of the teachers in the Special Education/LD Department is lacking. The principal and administration otherwise are wonderful and treat children and visitors with respect. Parental involvement needs to be increased;alot of the volunteering comes from the same people year after year.There should also be more activities for children who aren't into sports or cheering and who aren't up to par enough to be in book clubs and spelling bees.
