My child has been attending HRA from K, and we are just thrilled with the school. My daughter looks forward to going to school every day, the teachers are caring and the academics are superb. Class sizes are small, with about 15 kids in each class in the lower grades.
The Great News about HRA is that the school believes in a sound mind in a sound body, so it strongly promotes academics and activities. The class size is small & the teachers are passionate and professional about their subjects. Also, the Honor Code is more than just a piece of paper. The kids, faculty, and parents follow it. Finally, grandparents are involved. The not so good news is that your child may have trouble balancing the academic/activity load. (Yes, some of the classes and extra-curriculars are so good that your children may want to take more than they have time for!). Also, it is definitely a difficult school for middle class working parents. The tuition is high and the yearly schedule doesn't coincide with other schools and few work schedules. Also, the middle-school kids can be cliquish. With that said, I must still say that HRA is
I switched my 3rd grader to this school this fall and have been overlly impressed with the quality of the education leadership and community service spirit. The principal is outstanding and is available and visible at all times the environment is challenging yet developmentally appropriate. The parent involvement is great and very welcoming to new parents. A great choice worth every penny.
My children have been there since kindergarten and the education is exceptional. The staff and faculty are top notch. worth every penny
I cannot speak highly enough of Hampton Roads as college preparatory school. I am currently attending an Ivy League Institution, and it has been clear from the beginning that I am among the most prepared for the work load. The educational foundation that the small class sizes and engaging teachers provided has made the transition to a college atmosphere significantly easier.
When you go there, there's a few things to complain about. Sometimes things might be considered overly strict. And most of the time, as a student, you'll complain a lot because your other friends won't have as much work, and they'll be having more fun in their lives... but once you graduate, you understand. It was all worth it. I was there from grades 6 to 12, and looking back, I wouldn't have done anything differently. If I find myself back on the peninsula when I'm older, that will be where my children end up, too. Really, there are no better alternatives in the area.
that school is great, it has really good education system
