To be able to know all the teachers and all the children in your child's class is so unusual in this day and age. The it takes a village philosophy is one that is championed in this unique educational environment. The parents work hard and are very involved in helping staff to enrich the quality of our children's education. There's a strong feeling of community and accountability which translates to the children, hopefully providing a strong foundation for their future.

The staff and PTO love the children at Lincoln. It is so nice to go to a school where ALL of the staff know you and your child.

I agree Lincoln is like a family a very disfunctional one. Only having one class per grade sounds cute until you have to deal with the same parents and students for six years straight. This school can't keep a fifth grade teacher for more than a year due to all the fighting between parents and administration oh what fun! It's true that a clique runs the school due to Lincoln having a part time principal. By the way lots of the staff works there part time and the library is only open two days a week due to budget cuts. If you can avoid Lincoln and go to a bigger school do it!

This has some very good teachers and some not so good teachers. There is only one class per grade level which can be good or bad. On the upside, it is a very small environment where everyone knows each other. The school's small size ensures that each student gets lots of attention, especially in the primary grades. However, having only one class per grade level makes it difficult if there are issues with classmates and/or the teacher. The small size of the school also makes it difficult to provide adequate special education services. There is a special education teacher who does a good job, but it is challenge for her to provide support to students in all six grades. Most students who need significant special education support choose to attend a larger school. The school has a very active PTO which has done many good things for the school. However, there is a clique that runs the PTO. A few of the parents in the PTO are pushy and aggressive and attempt to control the teachers and the staff.

Very family/community oriented. I have never seen anything like It. So friendly and they all work together for each other. They do A LOT of special things for the students with great activities that they do as a group. For a small school, they do a lot for the students and care for each one.

Wonderful school. Only one class per grade. Virginia "Blue Ribbon" school -superior academic excellence. Heavy parental involvement. However, the county school board is not supportive. It believes that the school is not "cost-effective" since it is a small, rural school. Not true. The building is paid for, the cost-per-pupil is one of the lowest in the county, and, actually, has less "bells and whistles" than the modern, new (impersonal) schools they are building. We have one "all-purpose" room which serves as the cafeteria, gymnasium, and stage/auditorium. Old creaky wooden floors. But the children are well-loved, and well-taught. Be prepared to fight for the right to your child's education-- not to be bussed a longer distance and be crammed into the new school they built a few years ago --which was not necessary. But now that it is built and they have a multi-million dollar bond on it, they have to use it. The school board rezoned our area to siphon off kids to fill the new school and now say they would like to close Lincoln because we don't have enough kids! The school board is anti-small, rural schools but we pay our taxes, too, and deserve to keep our schools.

We moved to Purcellville 18 months ago strictly because of the school system. Our 6 year old daughter is about to graduate from Kiendergarten at Lincoln and I tell you we could not be happier with the teachers and the curriculum. Our daughter has thrived and we look forward to the next 5 years there!
