This school did not have a permanent assigned principal this year and is showed. The two interim principles provided very little leadership. The teachers and school provides no advanced curriculum for students who excel and read above grade level. The school is one of the better schools on the east end of Henrico County but does not even come close to the average school on the west end of the county. The school has a few great teachers and the rest are just average teachers. The school as a whole is very disorganized and the parents who want to get involved and help either don t get information they ask for or get tired of ask and give up. The parents don t really seem to be welcome at this school and there is very little PTA involvement. This school has a very bad volunteer policy. Parents can volunteer but not in your own kid s class. This school has a-lot of potential but lacks leadership and an advanced curriculum for students who excel.
Arthur Ashe Elementary is a wonderful school. The teachers are caring, they work extremely hard, and have high expectations of the students. The students do rise to these expectations and are high achievers! Many extra-curricular programs and activities are provided for the students, both in and after school. Arthur Ashe Elementary is an accredited school and has been so for many years. Many parents try to get their children enrolled there because of the many positive experiences that are offered at Ashe. You would be extremely proud and honored to have your child attend Ashe due the wonderful staff and positive learning experiences that go on there!
The educational opportunities at Arthur Ashe Elementary School are minimal at best. Most children are instructed below-grade level and teachers are not provided with necessary teaching tools. You ask for advanced work and it's foreign to the teachers. They focus primarily on making sure the child who isn't getting the basics are taken care of while those who get the basics and want to move on, they just sit idle. I can't put it all on the school because if the parents were concerned, it would show. There seems to be a lack of parental involvement but a lot of expectations from the school. It seems they want the school to teach and rear their kids. The parental-school partnership needs to be worked out.
