My son is in his second year at Courtland and has had a great experience. I can say he has had one math teacher that has been below our expectations. He is very challenged with his AP courses and the teachers truly push the kids to excel. This school has great community support and a great group of kids!!!
I graduated from Courtland in 2008 and I had a wonderful experience. I remain in touch with many teachers that all positively impacted my life. One negative is the math program, but the english teachers are wonderful and Mr. Helsley of the chemistry department can't be beat!
I am currently a sophomore here. I may have only been here for about a year and a half but I really enjoy going to this school. The music program is excellent (happen to be a member of the Courtland High School Orchestra), there is a lot of school spirit, academics are decent, and there are plenty of extracurricular activities provided here. So far I have had wonderful teachers. I believe I will enjoy the rest of my high school career here.
I'm a junior here and my high school exsperience has been miserable. The teachers are okay but there are none of them I'll probably remember as being spectacular. Last year in drivers ed instead of learning something that was actually useful, like say maybe those road signs we have to know to get our permits, we watched drunk driving video after drunk driving video. I don't get the impression any of my classmates were paying attention to these videos anyways so it was really a waste of time. I would say the students here are pretty obnoxious and irritating my chemistry class is a zoo, everyone talks over the teacher and nobodies paying attention. I had a similar problem in my freshman algebra class so it's really no wonder that I have gotten low c's in both classes. I can't wait to graduate and get out of here.
I've gone to this school for three years and I haven't gotten anything satisfactory from it. My grades have dropped to C's and D's when they were mostly A's and B's in middle school. This school is particularly lacking in the math department I haven't got a single good math teacher since I've been here, which is just fantastic since math is my weakest subject. I don't feel like my teachers really care too much about my grades especially since I don't play sports. Drivers Ed. was a completely useless class. We spent six months watching drunk driving videos that no one paid attention to. It got really old hearing how so-and-so's brother got killed by a drunk driver to the point where I really didn't care. The students can be pretty obnoxious. Overall I can't wait to graduate and leave this place.
I am a sophmore at Courtland High School, and so far things here are great. The teachers and staff are friendly, the acedemics are above average, and the sports here are excellent. Courtland has a welcome home kind of feeling. I love this school. :] *Class of 2010* Go Cougars! -Frankie Mattero
I have a senior and have now spent 4 years getting to know the school. Like anything it is what you make out of it. The principal and Asst. Principals are awesome. The guidance staff has also been excellent. My son has participated in many of the sports and clubs. He has had a great senior year and he was excepted to his top two choices for college. Parents blame everything on everyone else and forget to see how they can work as a team with the school to make the high school years a success. It is so important to have parental involvement, join the PTSA, work concessions for the band, go to guidance and see what you could do it could be as easy as folding Newsletters. It helps you get a better handle on what is happening and who the kids are at school. Thank you Courtland H.S.
I am a student at courtland high, courtland is probally one of the best schools in the state, all my teachers really care and they are all involved with every student, no student is singled out, if I could picc any school to attend, it would be courtland.
I have a junior, there are many ways I judge the school. He is athletic and involved in clubs at Courtland. Since 9th grade when he put his foot in the door he has loved it and grown under the teachers, administrators, guidance and coaches. He is learning about committment in football. The school feels like an extension of my community and though it can be challenging with the teachers I have found it to be a pleasant experience. I thought it would be such a transition for him from Middle school and have been pleasantly surprised. Kids come to the 9th grade lacking skills and a foundation they need to continue HS courses,it takes some extra help or tutoring. I rate the school excellent.
I have had three sons at Courtland, the oldest graduated and the other 2 are presently attending. I would like to see more teacher communication with both the students and the parents as far as how the students can improve. The school is overcrowded but the staff and teachers are doing a good job overall. The coaches are great and they take a great interest on how the atheletes are doing academically as well as physically. I feel it is the best school in the county.
