Mrs. Smith, the P-K is an Excellent Teacher,my Grandson has mastered skills that has prepared him for Kindergarden and learning skills for College. I saw a transformation of a "special" child go from" not wanting to put on his coat to leave"; to Mrs. Smith holding him for a minute, talking to him and now you can't tell him from the other children. Mrs. Smith we need more Teachers like you!!!!!! This school is striving for EXCELLENCE! under the direction of the Principal and Teachers.

This school is an excellent school that shouldn't be in the same category with ORR at all.The teachers are excellent especially Mrs. Kabrerra and Mrs. Sullivan.Alyssa Best us forever greatful and so are her parents.I wish the school offered more Fine arts and lanquages and as much hip-hop themed activities.

There are many Terrific accolades that attributes to Randle Highlands, they have a dedicated Principle who knows, values and understands higher education, daily she implements her vision of exceeding the expectations of her students. The teachers from grade level headstart to 5th grade contribute their personal time to ensure each students is on the right academic level. Continuously, the teachers and staff dedicate their day to assisting each child at their own direct needs. I am a proud parent of Randle Highland students, I recommend any parent who has a desire to enroll their child(ren) at Randle Highlands, you won't be disappointed. We have an array of extra curricular activities for our children, such as Chess, Tennis, African Dance, and a Step Team, Debate/Geo-Plunge these activities are offered to our student body and rendered by our teachers and staff. I recommend parents to enroll their children in Randle Highland ES.

The principal sets the tone for the school. I have tried to talk to the principal several times about this school and didn't get a straight answer not once. Randle Highlands had lots of after school programs and there aren't that many anymore. The parent use to volunteer for the after school program but the moral is so low that the parents no longer volunteer. I have tried to volunteer for several after school activities but the principal told me that all the activities would have to be on Saturday. The children have no fun after school activity such as cheerleading, baseball and basketball which used to be very popular until the volunteers transfer to other school or quit. Randle Highland is going downhill.

My child has attended Randle Highlands for the past seven years, and I 'm outraged at the lack of support from our parents. As parents we need to play a positive role in our children's life and stop pointing fingers at each other. We need to make the difference in our children's future. I always hear about what is not being done, but I hardly ever hear about what is being done. The Principal does not run the school by herself. It takes teachers, parents, and the community. When our Saturday School funding was cut, it was the Principal that keep the program going with funds out of her own pocket. The teachers at Randle Highlands work hard to make sure all of our children are not left behind. Come to the school and see what a difference you can make our children's future.

When my daughter started at Randle Highlands in PreK, it was wonderful and the former Principle Mr. Tony Jones was great!! Since Mr. Jones retired, the school has experienced a steady decline for quality education. The current Principle is not trustworthy and most of the teachers have been replaced with teachers that are not dedicated to their students and leave out the door as soon as the school day ends. I have one more child left at the school but will be looking for another school to put her in next year. Randle Highlands is not the school that it use to be.

Randle Highlands is a great school over all. Aside from the current Principal bringing down the moral of Staff and several parents confirming the Principals lack of involvement everything is fine however I question the schools reputation, ratings and risk of losing wonderful teachers and staff as well as students if nothing is done. We have a PTA which rallied to remove the previous Principal but with the head of the present PTA committee and the Principal being so close it may be difficult. The principal has connections to Oak Hill and is a former Principal for Anacostia. With the Principals background in Youth Corrections and Highschool students she treats the school body in that manner and loses site that the children are in Elementary. She is not a good communicator, she does not follow through or keep her word, hides behind her staff and does not appropriately address issues.

My three children received there primary education at Randle Highlands. They attended Randle Higlands from September 1993 through June 2008, Even though that was the last school year that a child of mine attended there, that school, and its staff will always have a special place in our hearts. Randle Highlands is more than a school setting, it is a family. The teachers there want the children to excel, and encourage parents to be involved. In the 15 years that my children were there I never encountered a Principal, a teacher nor staff member, that was anything less than profesional and helpful. My children even plan on sending their children to Randle, when they become parents. That, in and of itself, speaks volumes about their experience at Randle. It is truly the best school in Washington, D.C.

My family goes back with Randle Highlands atleast 20 years. My older cousins, sisters, neices & nephews have attended. I have watched the school evolve into an even better place where children/parents can come, feel safe and be apart of the Randle Highlands Family. THis definitely is a home away from home, the staff wants to help, it really does take a village, any parent of any nationality in the Highland area should consider Randle Highland ES.

My son has been at RHES since Pre-K, the staff are wonderful. I swore my son wasn't going to attend a public school, but his grandmother lived in the neighborhood and told me to try it out so I did. OMG!!!! I fell in love with the school. He is now going to be in the 5th grade this school year. I now am thinking about what I am going to do after 6th grade. OMG, I wish they were a school with all grades My baby girl is 2 and I pray that they start a Head Start program within the next year.. I am soo proud of Randle Highland.

I love this school my daughter attends. I also use to be a former teacher. This is not your regular school but a home away from home. The work that the teachers do to support families is wonderful. At this time and I am trying to get my 3 year old ready for Pre K at Randle Highland. I would love to see Head start at Randle Highlands it would also help the community needs and children.

This school is an asset to the community by providing a structured learning environment with good administrators, teaching staff and a wide array of afterschool programs and activities. My first grader loves attending this school.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Washington, D.C. used the District of Columbia Comprehensive Assessment System (DC-CAS) to test students in reading and math in grades 3 through 8 and 10, and science in grades 5, 8, and High School. The DC-CAS is a standards-based testing program, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the District of Columbia. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Rating legend

Average
Above
average

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth and their readiness for college (for high schools). If a school is designated low performing (Tier 3) by the DC Public Charter School Board, the school receives a "Below average" GreatSchools Rating. The graphs below compare this school's results to other schools in the city.
