This school offers an Incredible academic & arts curriculum for students. I have been concerned with the "just get by" mentality of the middle and high schools in Kitsap County and decided to search for something better for my child. I could not be more thankful to have found West Sound Academy and what it offers. I've found it to be a fantastic community of students and faculty. It is well worth the price if you value your child's education and want them to have every advantage in preparing for both college and life.
I am a parent of two students who attend West Sound Academy. I am overtly impressed with the faculty and families that have been drawn to this school. My son is excelling in the music program; learning to compose, play and understand theory. At public schools his papers were filled with red edit marks. When the WSA instructor worked one on one with him he learned to self-edit. He now has his voice through music and writing. Even though the classes are more rigorous he gets stellar grades. My daughter is a math and science star and yet she had a hard time navigating the public school framework. Now she is excelling and able to work independently in a personalized math program. The focus on having international students and global awareness is life-altering. The Jan term program has allowed both of my children to spend a month digging deep into an interest of theirs. Between the personalized approach, the IB diploma, the focus on a global and international perspective, and the sense of safety and care the community provides I have no complaints and encourage all to check it out,
I am a parent of two WSA students. Our experience with the school has been very positive. The teachers are inspiring and supportive, the curriculum is of a high standard. Outdoor experiences during the year enhance the community spirit and develop a sense of responsibility for the environment. Thank you WSA
I'm the parent of a 2009 WSA graduate. The integration of rigorous academics with the arts was a perfect match for my daughter. She took challenging coursework in math and science, acquired skills in research and writing in her English and History classes, and developed her talents and confidence in the arts, thanks to mentoring and guidance from some wonderful teachers. She's now at Rhode Island School of Design, and loving it. Thank you WSA!
This is our daughter's third year at West Sound Academy and we have been very pleased with the school. For the first time in her life she is being challenged academically and loves her experience with school each day. The high quality instruction is given by caring, devoted and positive teachers. She has truly become engaged in her learning and the organization of her work. Her instructors also give great attention to the students and their needs, further encouraging them by way of caring for them and showing that what you do on a daily basis matters in your academics and in life. We are very pleased and will soon have our son attending as well.
As the grandparent of a WSA student, I am very impressed with this school. The small class size, the committment of the teachers, the high expectations for the students all combine to give my grandchild a first rate education. I am familiar with the IB program and the school's plan to become an IB school attest to the administration's committment to a rigorous academic preparation.
As a former parent I am disappointed by the decisions and direction the Board has chosen to take WSA. This school had such great potential. The quality of the curriculum and student population has changed drastically. I hope that WSA can become what it wants to. They need to act instead of using fancy PR such as 'future IB school' or 'renowned international educator.'
After graduating from WSA in 2008, I felt so prepared ad excited for my future. It was really when I entered college in the fall that I realized how much WSA had prepared me. I watched many of my classmates at college struggle with the workload and what our professors expected of us. The workload of college was not a surprise, and I had established some great work habits at WSA. This is due to the rigor of the academics and the expectations of the teachers at WSA. The teachers had inspiring passion for their subjects, and they have inspired me to do so much more with my education and life. I could not have asked more from my high school education than what WSA has given me.
I cannot say enough great things about this school. My family is thrilled. Innovative teaching, extradordinary curriculum, incredible teachers, and a talented administration. T
This school is based on false pretenses and does not provide a healthy academic or social setting for students. Many unsatisfied students left this school in its formative years due to a lack of quality curriculum and ineffective teaching methods. I strongly suggest speaking with former students regarding their true experience at WSA before pursuing this well presented but poorly executed school as an option.
