One daughter graduated from Wilson. She had a great high school experience and was prepared her for a successful experience at an out of state private college. Our second daughter is currently attending Wilson and is having a very positive experience. The Honors and AP classes are challenging, the teachers caring, and the principal is incredible. Mr. Besett is involved, positive, and effective. Wilson provides great opportunities for involvement in sports, choir, clubs, and music. There are dedicated parents involved in the Ram Fans and Wilson Music Boosters. I highly recommend this school!
I was in the "honors" and "AP" programs at Wilson High School. The teachers had high expectations, and provided us with all the instruction that we needed to attain those goals. The principal and other senior staff were present in our daily activities. They could always be found interacting with students. This aided to the order of things around campus. Also, you know teachers are good when students are being challenged, but still love to come to class. That was my experience at Wilson.
I think Wilson is fantastic! The staff have been more than helpful since my daughter transferred from University Place! Her teachers have been supportive & encouraging, and the principal is the best! I have had same day responses from a teacher, her counselor, and the office mgr! What more could you want? We love it & are glad we switched from Curtis!
Wilson High School has a great enviroment for the students attending and hopefully it will stay this way thanks to the great teachers teaching at this school. The dropout rate has changed positvely in the last 20 years its abosoultely amazing.~ Shela
So far this year the atmosphere is charged. Probably because of the new construction going on. Because of this the classes seem a bit over crowded, but with the decent teachers this seems to not be a problem!
This school is very money oriented. I find there are fees for everything and the cost of school events are sky high. Yes this is an upper class school, but there are those who aren't in that upper class that just can't afford these extra's. I find that even though they state they want parents input, they discourage it when faced with a parent. Acting like you are interfering with the school. There are some teachers that are very nice and helpful. I think they need people skills taught to the faculity. I also attend this school in the 80's and it hasn't changed a bit in these issues.
The administration of Wilson High school leaves a lot to be desired. They are unable to connect with parents. When asked for assistance you get a run around and way too many interuptions. Some of thw teachers are excellent while others either don't care or have issues with language barriers or not caring about the students. Wilson has a very low drop rate but look at the withdrawal rate instead. Many students go to other schools looking for the connection that just doesn't happen at Wilson.
I am a student at Wilson and I defenetly think that this is the best school in Tacoma specially if you compare it with the dropout and Wasl improvements at the other schools.
