I have been goin to JA for two years, and I admitt, there are a few teachers that are irresponsible and likely to be fired. But over all, you learn alot, and if you aren't committed and a hard working student, it will show. So, you know what they say. 'If you can't take the heat, get outta the kitchen!'
Test scores speak for themselves. John Adams is the best middle school in the Kanawha Valley. The only complaint is traffic to and from school.
John Adams is an overall great school. I was in this school in grades 6 and 7, and was even a little bit sad to leave after my 7th grade year. The administration of the school worked well, and every time incidents occured they would work to renew policies. The teachers were great, and I think they even taught us more than the teachers in an 8th grade level class could do in a supposedly 'Superior' state in education. The PTA was very involved, and I believed it helped the school alot. The school is also not as bad as many say it to be, 90-95% of kids are great. JAMS is the best in
I love John Adams, the teachers are great and the dances are cool, plus the school isn't falling apart like most. the thing I enjoy the most is the freedom. Mostly because I just came out of fifth grade. It's a lot more free and we don't have to be watched in the hallway and elementary stuff like that. There is a lot though of down to earth smart people who go there. So to all parents out there around Charleston, if you haven't all ready consider sending your kids to John Adams this year or next year, because I don't normally like school, but here it is so great!
John Adams is a fantastic school! It challenges you to the best of you ability. Yes it is a tough school academic wise, but it helps you to become a better student. The teachers and staff are terrific! Both of my daughters loved their school years at John Adams. There are many extra cirriculars too! Overall, John Adams is a fantastic school!
My friend and I are both students at JA. This is a great school but, there are a few problems that really need to be taken care of. Students should be able to vote on what they want to do for an extracurricular activities. The most impportant thing in this school is the favorism of studeents. No matter what the students should be treated equally. John Adams is a very improved school since it was built but it still needs some serious stuff!
I am also an eighth grade student at John Adams. I have been there for three years now, and I must say that I haven't been terribly pleased with the school for any period of time that I have been there. I'll say that many of the teachers are actually quite nice, but the majority of them don't try to discipline students. Sometimes the students can even be too much for the teachers. Last year, one of my favorite teachers left. If JA really is the best school in the district, I'd hate to see the rest.
I am a student at John Adams Middle School and I STRONGLY disagree with ANY of what you have said. Yes, there is taunting, but what middle school doesn't have that? Honestly, everyone had that same problem when they went through middle school, did they not. Secondly, yes, your child's grades may have fallen, but that is because it is the best middle school in the STATE! If you come from our school system and make good grades, you can get into almost any college you wish. My mom used to help enroll children into military academies and she informed me that if she saw you were from Boone County schools or a small school and got good grades, she hardly looked at them, for all you had to do was look at their test scores. We have WONDERFUL test scores and teachers and feel it is a FABULOUS school!
I would have to disagree with the majority of the reviews posted. I have put four children through this school and over the last 7 years as it has gone through transition from junior high to middle school I have seen it improve. The majority of the teachers are well educated, caring, and efficient teachers. The leadership is weak but the new assistant vice principal is a wonderful addition...firm but kind!
Where do I start? My daughter transfered there in 8th grade. The school was not clean at all, and anytime I went in there after lunch, the stench from the restrooms off the lobby was overwhelming. She was picked on by the girls-which I understand is not uncommon there. The vice principal at the time was OVERLY tough on certain students, while she turned a blind eye to others. The police were up there constantly. The high school kids would come down to the parking lot and taunt the kids, throw things at them, etc. but my undetstanding was the lots were never monitored by adults. I reluctantly allowed my son to start 6th grade there last year. The behavioral problems have continued there, but he didn't seem to have the problems she encountered.
I feel that JA teachers are lazy and do not care about the students . My child allways did well in school until she attend JA and now my child does'nt even want to go to school. My child said that the teachers are rude, and do any thing they want. Also you only get your grade if you play sports and or live in south hills and have money. There for I recomend that JA is a awful school.
We recently transfered our child to John Adams because everyone said the education was better at JA. let me tell you its not. My kids were honor roll students at their previous school and again at John Adams. There is no difference. I would even go as far as to say that overall the teachers at their previous school are more caring an have more compassion for the students than the teachers at JA. All schools are going to have there problems and I would say that JA has more than its share.
