An urban school with a homey feel: Tamarack provides a warm and loving environment for my three children and, at the same time, an open and supportive community for our whole family. It is a beautiful school full of substance. You get the sense that the children who receive this education are made different by it: when I see the children at Tamarack, I witness self-confidence and a real interest in others, and the world. I imagine this would not be possible without some pretty amazing teachers, a strength of character in the school as a whole, and great leadership. Kudos! And thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for making my children's educational lives so very lively, and full of meaning and purpose -- and love.

Tamarack is a unique, diverse, urban Waldorf school that has provided both my 9 year old daughter and my 8 year old son with exceptional educational experiences. The faculty at Tamarack are well-trained, experienced educators who whole-heartedly embrace the philosophical foundations of Waldorf education. The curriculum, the spirit of the school, and the emphasis on social interaction as a means of personal growth are the three main reasons we chose Tamarack in the first place. And they are the reasons we continue to love and invest in our school.

I have 2 children attending Tamarack Waldorf and I could not be happier with the staff, administration and school community. I have been especially grateful for the shifting in "keeping children young" and away from the fast paced life that threatens to overtake us. I am very comfortable with the approach to academics, inclusion of nature and school celebrations. I could not be more thrilled with natural objects, supplies, and handiwork and the absence of advanced technology in the k3-8 grades. There is plenty of time and exposure for technology and my children are thriving in this enviroment. They are both happy to go to school each day and happy to return for school events. We as a family are fortunate to have a Waldorf school so close.

My child has attended Tamarack since K4. We didn't know much about Waldorf education in advance of enrollement, and primarily chose Tamarack because it was a neighborhood school that seemed to reflect our values. The diverse community reflects the world that we want our child to experience as normal. Our child tends towards the dreamy and artistic side of her nature, and we appreciate the fact that this is nurtured by the school community. The Waldorf model does require a commitment by the family, and the relationship to the classroom teacher is central to that - of the parent(s) and of the child. So perhaps that is not always for everyone. But if trust can established and communications are open on both sides, it is a great option for families to consider for their children in the greater Milwaukee area.

My daughter started at this school in K4, and I love watching how this school nurtures her and prepares her for the road ahead. She is now in first grade and everyday she comes home excited about the Spanish lesson, the handwork, drawing and music she is learning. I love how the school teaches the whole. I am able to watch my daughter learn her Spanish through songs and action. Instead of straight memorizing. By learning multiple ways she will have a better chance at remembering. I am so thankful my daughter is able to be taught all subjects, including physical activity and the arts. I am very blessed to be part of this community.

This is an excellent waldorf k-8 school that teaches the whole child from the inside out, these students are fully prepared to enter and compete when they reach high school. I like the knitting, music and movement classes. As well as the spanish and drawing lessons.The fairy tale stories and story like math concepts in first grade prepare the children with a rich and expressive life in reading and math. At Tamarak learning is like building with blocks, each lesson, each concept creates a whole picture. This is a community school where everyone helps to build a great school and parental involvement is the key to a child's success. My only wish for the school is to have it be Spanish Immersion, I've gone to Spanish Immersion schools and I truly enjoyed being immersed in the language and the culture and I want that for my kids.

Though a bit skeptical at first, I've been surprised and pleased by the care, nurture, and intellectual rigor of each teacher my kids have had. They each, in turn, have crafted a classroom experience that activates my kids gifts, confronts their challenges (and challenging behaviors) and awakens their interests. This is due, in part, to what seems to be a great balance between individual and communal focus, imagination and intellect, work and play. Also, because it's a voucher school, it's affordable and allows for greater socioeconomic and racial diversity. Overall, the quality of education and care is top-notch, the aesthetic is soothing and restful and the community is vibrant.

Tamarack is the type of school I wish I could have attended! It aligns with my belief that children should be nutured in the younger grades and provided a loving/home-like environment. I also love that the children of all ages are encouraged in the arts and allowed lots of outside time.

Tamarack nurtures the individual child's sense of self and community with gentle but structured methods that have been shown to be academically sound. Instead of spending hours sitting still and being fed data, children move and explore their world in developmentally-appropriate ways. The result? Kids who are clear-thinking, self-motivated, and passionate about learning for a lifetime. My daughter flourished in this environment as her first school experience, coming home each day tired from lots of activity, but grounded from the structured and beautiful routines and uncluttered environment. I really appreciate the school's focus on educating the family, not just the child, through send-home articles and meetings designed to support creativity, healthy growth, and the development of compassionate and clear-thinking kids and adults.

Our family have been with Tamarack for the last four years. We LOVE it! The holistic - mind, body and spirit approach to our children and the respect for childhood are HUGE. Children go outside everyday where they are fed by this time out in the world and fresh air playing. Children are met where they are at and encouraged to their best selves. Each child valued for the wonder and magic they bring to the classroom & world. We also very much love the sense of community we experience with other parents & families. Folks respect one another and are able to come together from various walks of life to offer ourselves to our children and the community. It is really a life-giving place.

We have been with Tamarack for almost 9 years. We have three children who've attended since the early childhood class, and have never had a problem. I'm confident that my children are safe and loved by all the teachers and staff. I wouldn't even consider sending my children anywhere else.

My child was treated very poorly by the staff at this school - mainly the early childhood staff. Early childhood teachers in the Waldorf community are supposed to be grandmotherly - warm and nurturing. What we experienced was very far from loving. They are also not accepting of children with differing needs - or "perceived needs" - and don't use proper channels to assess whether a child is right for their school or not. It's a shame that what should be a lovely school makes so many young children feel sad and disliked. I hope that their early childhood program is able to improve to better meet the needs of Milwaukee's youth.

Worth every penny. Beyond being an amazing Waldorf school, Tamarack offers art, music, woodworking, movement, foreign language, diversity and a community of teachers, parents and staff who are involved and caring. My children love going to school, because Tamarack instills a love of learning.

Tamarack Waldorf School has brought our family so much happiness. We moved back to Milwaukee so that my three boys could attend this school. My eldest son, after one day in his new class, was jumping up and down for joy. He said he had never been happier, and it is true. I have never experienced him so satisfied and content, day after day, as he comes home from school. His teacher is warm, friendly, funny, affectionate, clear and fair. We are so very happy to have found our home at Tamarack and in the community here. Thank you to both the teaching faculty and the administrative staff, who are just top-notch.

I am an educator, however I am not employed at Tamarack. I have five grandchildren at Tamarack and not only am I impressed with the caring, conscientious, and devoted faculty and staff, but also with the overall Waldorf philosophy that is so evident in every classroom. I find that the children are ready and waiting for each phase of development with a sense of awe and wonder and with an enthusiasm for learning. I cannot imagine my grandchildren at any other school. Tamarack's Cream City historical building is set in a beautiful and vibrant urban community. I highly encourage parents to consider visiting Tamarack Waldorf when looking for a school for their children.

Tamarack is a strong Waldorf school with a fully integrated arts program, a commitment to diversity, and an active parent community. It prepares students well for the highest-regarded public and private high schools in the Milwaukee area. The students are taught the traditional academic subjects in a unique way, one that draws out their own individual skills and cultivates an inquisitive approach to the world. Children are allowed to be children at Tamarack, and the pressures to compete or to fit a narrow idea of success are removed. Despite a curriculum that is not tailored to mainstream standardized testing goals, my own child has tested very well on exams. The parents are generally enthusiastic and engaged in the life of the school. The faculty are caring and talented, and the staff are dedicated and compassionate. It's a true community, with lots of different personalities, a lot of differences - period - but everyone there knows how special and wonderful Tamarack is and works hard to make the school a really good school. Words are cheap; if you get a chance to visit the school, you'll get it.

In 2012-2013 Wisconsin used the Wisconsin Student Assessment System (WSAS), which includes the WKCE and WAA, to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in math and reading, and in grades 4, 8 and 10 in language arts, science and social studies.
