Michelle Pinedo teaches second grade at KIPP Raíces Academy.

Ms. Pinedo explains why it’s important for rising third graders to know basic mental addition and subtraction.

Video transcript:

“Something that I hope that my second graders would master before they go to third grade is math facts. So, they should be able to master something along the line of seven plus two is nine. And then they should also know the reverse, nine take away two is seven. That’s going to essentially support them when they get to third grade by helping them with regrouping and multiplication as well.”
