My son went to virtual school last year. He took two classes at his home high school (band and a foreign language) and four through virtual school. It was an excellent opportunity for him. He is a GATE student, yet struggled to find motivation to do his homework. As a result, his grades in Junior High were not good. In the virtual program, I was able to monitor his progress and ensure that he completed his work each day. Since he is so smart, he was able to move through the material quickly. In most cases, he finished all of his day's work before his home high school was dismissed for the day (and they had to go home and do homework, which he had already finished!). The coursework was rigorous; I was able to learn and/or relearn many concepts as I supervised his progress. All the time my son saved allowed him to be in marching band at the high school and not lose any sleep (even though they practiced and competed up to 20 hours each week during the season). My son was able to get his homework done as I knew he could and also achieve excellent grades in the process.
